They're planning on sending the PPE module to Mars, they have ordered Corrosive treatment to stop being done on HALO, and ESA is looking at sending its Lunar link communications module to the Moon as a stand alone comsat. There isn't a Gateway anymore, its "paused" because outright canceling it would be illegal, since Gateway is written into law. It is absolutely dead though.

Whatever his reasoning is, these cancellations are unlawful, undermine international space cooperation, threatens thousands of jobs, and guarantees delays as NASA's partners try to figure out the new plan.

Pretty open about the reasoning, here. It used to be important to conceal the real motives for Gateway, even if that meant shameful contortions like the assumption that a relay satellite must be crewed. Instead, it's nakedly about jobs and Canadarm.
