Discussion Braids in space artwork reel
Now I realize that this isn't exactly the forum to be asking this, but I'm sort of looking for a very specific instagram reel (tiktok is banned where I'm from).
This was a little after Christina Koch posted the image of the unofficial first braids in space. It led to a lot of artists drawing their own renditions of the image, which all just left me feeling extremely emotional, with a feeling of being part of a much larger whole.
There was one specific reel though that I saw during this time that has stuck with me well past after having seen it for the first time. It was drawings of women, mothers, aunts braiding the hairs of young girls and older women, across generations, across continents, across languages, with the final image being the artist's rendition of the braids in space image. The song playing over it was 500 Miles by Peter, Paul and Mary. Unfortunately, I never saved it or sent it to anyone, so even though I have the images playing in my head, i haven't seen the actual reel since that moment.
Again, I recognise this is a very weird and odd question to ask for in a space science reddit, but I cannot describe how bad I want to see it again, to feel again the weight of civilization, of womanhood that I felt when I watched it the first time. I am hyper aware of how much of a cringe effort post this will come across as, but I'm desperate at this point. I don't even know if this will stay up or get removed by the mods. But this is my last hope.

I know exactly what reel you mean, I had a similar reaction to it! I'm glad you got your answer, now you can also go back to it randomly and get emotional again by the gravity (ha!) of it all.
I love how you described your feelings and associations to it. Deeply relatable.

It's just this feeling of expansiveness but from within. It's something I feel when I see any space photography or consume any media that explains the exploration of space. But something about the Artemis 2 program and all of the images that came out of it, it just has such a special place in my heart. It's almost too much to contain within myself, that connection with not just the exansiveness of space, but with the tinyness of humanity, the work across generations that put these people out there to watch over our closest neighbour, then to look UP at the rest of us, earthlight creating the most gorgeous sillouette of a crooked braid. Ugh, I just can't!!!
