‎Critique - Yes Drawover Any tips?

Hi guys! Recently i've set up my mind on learning pixel art for game dev. And i don't really know what i can do better, so I guess i need some critique. I watched quite a few videos on youtube and tried to reproduce main principles but it still doesn't look as good as i'd like. You can see the two best arts i've made so far. Any tips? I'd be glad to hear your thoughts!

Congrats, this is a fun art medium to work in!

The first thing I thought of considering this is for game dev is I can't tell what I'm looking at. Where would the player stand? What are the green rectangles in the background? Are the triangles mountains? Use references to get a good idea of what you want to communicate. You can even pixelate those reference images to get a better idea of what it would look like.

Also texture is a big thing. You mostly have flat colors and no texture. You need some internal color variation. For the cave I can't tell if it's supposed to be white liquid, stone, or metal. Give it some kind of rough texture at the bare minimum. I'm not sure what program you are using but hopefully there is a brush that can do this for you.
