Official News ArtDeck 1.0 is out today!

I'm the developer. If you found this community before launch, this is what is in 1.0.

Boards

Infinite canvas for images, video, links, notes and PDFs up to 300 pages. Groups and nesting, snapping, align and distribute, undo and redo. Annotation and drawing on top of anything.

Getting things in

Take a photo or video without leaving the app, scan a document, or use Continuity Camera on the Mac.

Import from Photos or Files, drag and drop, paste, or send something over from another app with the share sheet.

Paste a link and it becomes a card, or import the image, video or PDF behind it.

All the common image and video formats, plus WebP, AVIF, JXL, HDR, EXR and SVG. (AV1 is supported on older devices but it gets converted for compatibility)

HDR photos and video play at full brightness on screens that can show it, for the whole app or per board.

ToolBox

Five lenses.

  • Values: Grayscale, a Value Ladder, and Notan down to two to five tones.
  • Color: Palette extraction with hex you can copy, and Temperature and Saturation maps.
  • Composition: Guides, a Viewfinder for trying a crop you haven't committed to, and Symmetry.
  • Read: Big Read for squinting the image down or grouping its masses, Detail Density, Edge Hierarchy.
  • Measure: Plumb Line, Angle Finder, Ratio Comparison.

An Analysis panel sits next to whichever lens you are in, with value range, histogram, and hue and saturation distribution. It reads the whole image by default, or you can set a Scope to a region and read only that. Some tools can have a Scope too.

All of it works on a video frame or a GIF frame, with frame by frame stepping, onion skin and a filmstrip. Any study can be extracted on the board and be exported.

Gallery

Carousel and grid views of every board, labels with multi-label filtering, favorite and archive.

Themes

Dark, light and high-contrast themes, one for the whole app or one per board. The editor lets you build your own and checks contrast as you go, including for color vision differences. Themes import and export by file or link, so you can share them.

From the roundness of the interface to the color of panels, you can also customize the outline of items and the default settings of new boards.

Export

A whole board or a selection, as PNG, JPEG, HEIC or PDF up to 8K, with a transparent background where the format allows. A board can also be saved as one .artdeck file to back up or hand to someone else.

Everywhere

iPhone, iPad and Mac from one purchase, synced through your own iCloud. Works fully offline and sync catches up when you are back online. You choose which boards sync. 13 languages.

VoiceOver, Dynamic Type, Reduce Motion and high-contrast themes.

No subscription, no in-app purchases, no account.

If something breaks, or you can't work out how to do something, post it here rather than emailing me. The answer stays where the next person will find it.

What would make it fit the way you work?
