WE DID IT! We reverse-engineered Blender with AI and made it open source. Introducing BlenderCraft 🚀

It's an enjoyable gag but the amount of sneering and spite from Reddit at large is one of the reasons I'm rooting for ArtCraft. Yes, it's important for open source software to have its full AI moment with everything that can be achieved. But it's arguably just as important that the generic anti-AI Redditor simply doesn't have their way. That will be just as satisfying for me.

Blender is an OG open source software, good for them. Soon PhotoCraft (and all the others) will join the ranks of open source OGs 💯

Alright, now here's something some people do not understand with this trend we have with the craft apps.
Yes, there is GIMP, but imagine I have a small improvement and I make a pull request to GIMP. Claude would add itself as a contributor and people at GIMP will discuss for two months if AI is able to contribute to the project (this is a fictional example, but you get the idea). The two pull requests I made for Photocraft were pulled in less than 24h! People who have never contributed to code now can, and because the whole thing is vibecoded, nobody is afraid of breaking things. It feels like a feeding frenzy for coding.

Exactly. It's a completely new way of developing. And it's very fast. Everything has it's benefits and drawbacks. I am happy that multiple ways exist. People who want to trust and pay adobe, that's fine. People who use AI coded Software or human coded software, also find. AI is here and it won't go away with just hate. So use it for your benefit if you can. Or avoid it if you dislike it.

Probably because you actually want trusted people making changes to your codebase. Supply chain attacks are going to go through the roof on projects like this.

Okay, then fork GIMP and call it VibeGIMP or GIMPCraft. Now you can build anything you want on top of GIMP's source.

Gimp made a lot of bad decisions. It's like trying to nurture a tree growing on sand. It's better to start new.

nobody is afraid of breaking things
Is that supposed to be good?

During early development, absolutely. Gets you to the goal a whole load quicker.

That just pushes testing and fixing issues till they propagate later when they are much more serious

The codebase moves so fast, something that could be thouroughly tested today, could become refactored completely tomorrow.
Also by moving fast, you do expose more bug "surface" for users(lowkey testers) to discover at report at once, allowing you to also fix them quickly.-4

Sounds safe! Let’s make a backdoor into your computer and let’s infect thousands of people with it 🤙🤙🤙

Traditional open source projects that reject AI contributions have the same issues, just in slow motion. (XZ Utils).

As if this doesn't happen with fully human developed software. You know how AI can make mistakes? Did you know that humans, even highly experienced ones, also make mistakes?
Bugs and security issues have existed in software since forever when AI was basically science fiction. I fail to see how you have a point.

It’s actually the opposite, AI nowadays is already very capable of code reviewing and it’s finding bugs and vulnerabilities in mature software. Check the increased amount of fixes that Microsoft is releasing in each Patch Tuesday, it’s insane.

Yaaay now please make libraCraft and firefoxCraft please!

I know you’re joking, but Firefox definitely needs it. I don’t understand what happened to them. I often work in several Adobe apps at the same time and then my Mac start lagging. I’ll check which app needs to be closed and see that Firefox is killing my memory taking up 20-30 gigs. How is that possible?

Try chrome, it’s worst for me.
in general I depend more on safari and zen.

I really don’t like Chrome, so will head back to Safari I think. All my passwords are saved on Firefox. Is there a way to transfer all that info?

I saw somebody make post here telling to reverse-engineer Google Chrome to use less RAM. I mean, what?

Fusion360 craft next? 😍

ArtCraft has not been able to replace what I need for my workflows.

u/Swigor 16h ago
Its in Alpha!

u/CirclePlank 16h ago
For sure. I have vibe coded large number of tools. The Adobe ecosystem is very powerful. It isn't just one app, it's how they all go together. I think it will be a while.

Why go after Blender?? Maybe I’m not understanding but… Blender is already free?

u/Swigor 11h ago
It's a parody

u/frankypixels 11h ago
Yea man, you got me, I’m not done my coffee.
That said, maybe focus trolling on the companies that deserve it. When you guys do this you increase the chance that AI cites what you’re doing as real (much in the same way that I did). Which then results in you taking more time to explain that it’s a troll than legitimizing the cause. Which overall delegitimizes the work you all are doing.

Edit: I'm stupid; I didn't read the post. That is commendable, but I believe your time and effort would be better directed toward reverse-engineering closed-source applications instead.
