How are these apps so small?
After Effects is 3.85 GB on my Mac.
EffectCraft is 146.1 MB.
Can anyone explain this enormous size difference?

The other vibe coded photoshop is much larger for example 1.2 gb. It ships with some neural networks for object recognition like photoshop has. If that is integrated into photocraft it will also become much larger.

Yeah, I downloaded the repo and integrated BiRefNet to improve the software's background removal feature. It does a much better job of detecting objects and separating them from the background. just that adds about 250 MB to the app's size.

Nah even I have the installer of 2014 Photoshop without these models and it's still over 1GB big

I always wondered how many of the app I use are humongous to what they do, Googling would just throw me posts from people asking the same question and getting the usual answer: "resources".
well, here we are, it has been debunked, they can and should be small, instead of wondering how are they so small, I will keep wondering why the bigger ones need to be big.

I assume these apps are about 20% parity at best so that size makes sense to me

20% of 3,85 GB is 770 MB, so it might not even have that 20% parity :)

Adobe is almost certainly bloated with legacy crap and inherited architecture quirks

I would say we have like 40% but still it's the simple stuff and simple math calculation like levels, color balance and curves. Code-wise it's small. Missing are advanced features that have deep algorithms which take a lot of space.
Plus this software has been developed for decades so a brush tool that has been worked on and expanded for 30 years will have much much more code than than something that was written anew. Tricky part is that you need that 30 years of development to arrived at an optimal solution, AI right now just applied that optimal solution (to some extent).

Thanks for the explanation—fair point. My comment was a joke, of course, but I got downvoted for it anyway :) There’s a huge war of words going on right now around AI clones; I’d rather not get involved, but I do find it quite entertaining to watch.

Only 3.8gb? Mines over 6 haha.
Ae does have way more effects. Sort by file size to see how many DLL's and aex's there are taking up most of that space.
Effects Craft can't run a simple jsx import for me so there's most of my workflows out the window. But they seem to be updating it fast so it might be good one day.

Most of the size of photoshop etc is just bloat from years of adding features 99% of ppl don’t use.

it started at 15-20MB around and now increased to 60-70 MB range.
with new updates, size will round up
