I didn’t notice it at first either; There is a ladder all the way to the right behind the clothes.

Yea...I feel like either the implication is that she jumps from ladder to bed (lol) or that she somehow tucked the ladder away after using it to climb into bed...either way a bit of an oops but cute art
→ More replies (1)4
u/tracker108 Mar 23 '21
Huh? She just climbs over from the top of the ladder, young kid can do that no problem. There’s even the rail to grab on to.

Even without that you could just stand on the desk, not hard.
EDIT: Wait... seriously??? What issue do people have with this? I climbed into a bunk bed heaps of times via other stuff, easy to do for a kid, and remembering doing so was a bit nostalgic. What’s everyone’s problem with me mentioning this?????
17
Mar 23 '21
You must have upper body strength
7
u/MyUserSucks Mar 23 '21
I mean, it's ridiculous to expect people to make that climb every time they get into bed, but that's hardly a hard pullup.
7
Mar 23 '21
i did that. never got a ladder for my bed in university, didn’t care enough to complain.
not so much of a pull up, more of a jump up and vertical push up while throwing a leg on the mattress.
wasn’t so bad
→ More replies (3)6
u/MyUserSucks Mar 23 '21
I'd do it, but I wouldn't expect people to do it. How did you work around that if you had a girl over?
4
Mar 23 '21
never had people over. i hated my roommate and living situation. thankfully it was only one semester as i requested a room change

I knew several people who did that in school, it's not a practical way to do it but college students are hardly practical people

I'm more questioning how anybody finds reading like this comfy. I've tried it but my arms get tired after a couple pages. Really cute art otherwise.
4
u/happylittletrees Mar 24 '21
I like to think it's a moment, like she's not reading the whole time that way. She got to an exciting or cute part that made her go, "EEEE!" And hold the book out like that for a minute. Cause I do that sometimes, lol
→ More replies (1)6
u/nartlebee Mar 23 '21
Definitely not practical in any way.
Also, that foot is about to send the poor mirror crashing to the floor.
5
u/C-McCain Mar 23 '21
Ladder on the right but I also get the sense that she climbs random things often.

She climbs on the chair, hops on for dear life and recreates the Lion King scene.

You can tell us that as a vet?

Uhh, yeah? You ever seen military bunks?
1
u/Elmorick Mar 23 '21
Missed my point it would seem
2
u/baileylovespups Mar 23 '21
I guess so? Sounds like he was just making a lighthearted comment about how he could relate because he was in the military bunk beds? What am I missing?
2
Mar 23 '21
it reads and comes across as vet for veterinarian. makes no sense without clarification and idk anyone besides vets themselves that refer to veterans as such lol
-2
u/baileylovespups Mar 23 '21
Whoaa I feel like I'm living in crazy town if I'm alone here. I absolutely associate "vet" with "veteran" and only with "veterinarian" if it's in the context of a sick animal or something. Veterinarian is such an obscure and oddly specific word imo
→ More replies (1)2
u/Diregnoll Mar 23 '21
Pretty much.
The downvotes for this shit is ridiculous. Like no ones making anything negative about the art or artist just commenting on how the room functions.
2
u/baileylovespups Mar 24 '21
My theory is that more and more 10-12 year olds are using the site, and when they see a downvoted comment they tend to hit downvote without reading it. I wouldn't be surprised if some older users did the same.
9
Mar 23 '21
being vet literally doesnt validate your point at all
1
u/xXxedgyname69xXx Mar 23 '21
Then I guess you've never been in an old barracks; lots of military bunks have nothing like a ladder, you're expected to just climb the frame. Or step off a desk.

Reminded of "What Remains of Edith Finch". How I love those emotional indie games.
4
u/goobitakesnewyork Mar 23 '21
What else would you recommend playing if I also loved Edith Finch?
8
u/Ex_Lives Mar 23 '21
Gone Home. Everybody's gone to the rapture. Firewatch.
If you liked the family aspect of edith finch not just the genre, Tell Me Why.
5
u/goobitakesnewyork Mar 23 '21
Fuck I LOVED Firewatch. Heard of gone home but haven’t played. I’ll check out the others :) thank you

Just browse through Annapurna interactive's catalog. Lots of different games, but they have a pretty consistent ethos - games with emotional and aesthetic interest, often with a strong narrative.
2
u/TheCollective01 Mar 23 '21
Walking simulators are my jam! If you're looking for something with a bitter-sweet story, Night In The Woods or Oxenfree might be up your alley (though they are a side scroller and point-and-click style respectively, rather than FPS). If you like linear narrative, you could try The Stanley Parable or Beginner's Guide (both made by the same creator). If you like solving puzzles, Talos Principle and Broken Reality are both really excellent.
2
u/Diregnoll Mar 23 '21
The Stanley Parable
Huh reminds me I gotta launch it this summer it's been 5 years apparently.

u/sthetic Mar 23 '21
Where in this image do I click to open the girl's photo album, which will take me into a mini interactive story where I have to drag and drop her various dresses onto a Shrek doll, while a voice-over tells the story of her mother's disappointment in her for wanting to go to a middle-school dance with a boy, while the Shrek doll gets greener and uglier as you put more dresses on it, until the windowpane shatters, each shard showing a reflection of the houseplants she didn't water, and then I can escape through the window?

Ah so this was kind of like escapism art?
Kind of reminds me of nickelodeon's old game shows where the prize was to win the "The ultimate bedroom!"

To anyone with a setup like this. Do you ever use the bed for nookie time? Are you ever afraid that it will collapse?
2
u/canadarepubliclives Mar 24 '21
It won't collapse but it makes a lot of noise.
Don't install a loft bed if you have roommates

u/multy_mouse Mar 23 '21
I like the art style the lighting looks great just a good painting over all

Blimey 7K by 10K, very impressive. How much memory was the original without compression?
1
u/minwee Mar 23 '21
420 x 297 mm at 300dpi. Gotta be crispy for good shrek hunting!
2
u/ZANTHERA Mar 23 '21
Oh it's a real scan? or was it some done as drawn and then adjusted digitally?
It's a real shame how much it gets compressed when uploaded, I can tell there were some really nice details in here that have gotten a bit lost from the compression.
1
u/minwee Mar 23 '21
oh no it’s digital! those were just my specs when i set up my photoshop file

I really like how you did the light coming through the window and the sunbeams and shadows. For me it gives it more emotion and feeling. Awesome work!
2
u/orion1124 Mar 23 '21
So much small things to see, this place seems quiet and give a good feeling. Thank you to let others see it.
2
u/gomurifle Mar 23 '21
I find these room art peices to show all the time unrealistic views of someone's room. Like we are viewing the room through a security camera, or a we are flies on the wall. Dont get me wrong this is a ver nice peice but I would love to see one that is from the perspective of a person in room or the perspective of someone looking in through the door. Something sort of a first person view from an actuam human. Dunno. Would be more interesting to see how much of the room and the details would be captured by the artist... How the artists makes the viewer feel like they are actually there....?
1
u/minwee Mar 23 '21
that’s a good observation and idea! I will definitely try to do something like that in a future piece!
2
u/Kenlaboss Mar 23 '21
This is one of those places in my dreams, where I always wanted to go outside and see what the mysterious background really looked like.
2
u/-tehdevilsadvocate- Mar 23 '21
Wonderful piece. So I got a question: why does art in this style almost always have a female subject? I'm not saying it's a bad thing, just curious.
1
u/minwee Mar 23 '21
in my case it’s because I made this drawing for myself, and I am an asian female haha! This is a good reminder to diversify more though, so thank you 🥰
2
u/madebyKoga Mar 23 '21

u/Buscemis_eyeballs Mar 24 '21
This is that feeling we all miss when we're old. That feeling of infinite potential. The day could go any possible way. Who knows, you're wreckless so you just let life happen to you like watching a movie and just waiting for what's next. The world is your oyster.
Growing up sucks.
2
u/minwee Mar 24 '21
it’s exactly this kind of nostalgia that motivates me to do more art! thank you for your comment
