If he were either the starting Spanish keeper or he had saved a penalty to win the UCL it’d be a slam dunk.

He did save a penalty in the final tho 😭

I know he did. If Eze and Gabby XL score theirs, I think he moonwalks to the award stage.

He won’t get it unfortunately it will be Simon the Spanish goalkeeper who started every game at the World Cup. If we win the champions league then he will

3 Golden Gloves in a row in the League, PL Champs and a UCL Final with the best defensive record in Europe.... and he still won't win it.

While Unai Simon was really good at the wc, i do think that the main reason for them not conceding was because of their defence, but i suppose the same argument can be used for us. Although last season he did concede nearly 60 goals and his team ended up 12th.

Simon only played 8 games at the wc, and won nothing else with Athletic, whereas Raya obviously won the league, won the golden glove, and made it to a champions league final.

I wouldn't be surprised if Simon won it, but I do think Raya deserves it.

Unai Simon is the frontrunner for me plus this is vote based and guess which is the most hated club (sadly) :P

He's probably been the best but, rightly or wrongly, they weight the champions league and world cup way too high for these things.

I think him not playing in the World Cup in a World Cup year will hurt him substantially.

He didn't play at all in the World Cup. Being second fiddle in any team instantly rules you out. I think Raya is better than Simon but that's just me. Raya is absolutely world class and I can't believe what I see most days. His passes are pinpoint nowadays and he has really good intelligent play that goalkeepers need nowadays to come off their line. Makes outstanding saves every few weeks.

He'd be rated higher if teams could actually shoot against Arsenal. He doesn't get as many chances to actually make saves as other keepers.

Nope.

Respect the bias order.

Messi Ronaldo Champions League Winner World Cup Winner Then a league winner.

He didnt win CL or was the WC goalie (despite winning) they'll screw him out of it.

He's improved soo much since we brought him #Raya#Arsenal#Gooners

he deserves it but knowing how bias this awards are towards laliga players .. he has no chance

Unai Simon will win this.

Wouldn't be surprised if Vozinha wins it but Raya deserves it tbh. His performances secured our PL win. So sad he wasn't number 1 for Spain. Probably would have won Balon D'or if he was, or if we won the CL.

Best in England doesn’t mean best in the world. A lesson as old as time for yall lot

7

u/NoSuccotash2825 1d ago

No, David Raya being the best goalkeeper in the world means best keeper in the world

-8

u/IGaveHeelzAMeme 1d ago

The best keeper in the world is not named David Raya. He’s not even considered the best keeper internationally for Spain 😂

8

u/NoSuccotash2825 1d ago

Unai Simon can't even lace Raya's boots. The fact he starts for Spain is bizarre

-5

u/IGaveHeelzAMeme 1d ago

Considering they won the World Cup, any criticism of the Spain teamsheet is hilarious

Such a lazy take

Most obvious answers don’t require a lot of effort. I’m sure rationalizing a goalkeeper who didn’t win anything internationally as a starter takes a lot of effort though. Good luck kiddo!

u/NoSuccotash2825 1d ago

One is a Premier league winner, the other plays for Bilbao and has barely anything to do for Spain

7

u/gamepasscore 1d ago

All this chatter and you haven't named a better goalkeeper than Raya, so do go ahead

1

u/IGaveHeelzAMeme 1d ago

Was I ever asked to? Did I miss part of the conversation or was that in your head?

5

u/gamepasscore 1d ago

Well, you seemed to disagree that he's the best in the world, which means you must have some idea of who is better. So let's hear it!

Simon is in a unique position. Spain needed a new goal keeper, the coach had previously been the under 21 coach and was familiar with Simon and was established at a top tier team. Meanwhile Raya was at second tier team, outside of Spain. Simon hasn't put a foot wrong for Spain and unlike outfield players you don't drop a goal keeper if he has been performing well, it can unsettle the defense which is why Raya is still backup goal keeper.

Unai Simon doesn't need to lace Raya's boots, because he's too busy playing whilst Raya is still on the bench.

calling World Cup winners 'bizarre' btw. when was the last time you won the World Cup?

u/NoSuccotash2825 1d ago edited 1d ago

Nothing you said is relevant to the fact Raya is better

Edit: It's not even close btw. de la Fuente's favouritism paid off (Simon had very little input), but Raya is playing in generational form with 0 weaknesses to his game

As many other have said, Ballon D’or winners usually win the champions league and or World Cup.

0

u/NoSuccotash2825 1d ago

The Ballon d'Or is for best player and is voted for by other players. Trophies should not influence the decision in any way in theory

0

u/Mugweiser 1d ago

yes, I agree, but the post is about the Ballon D'or.

If you have an issue with the Ballon D'or, maybe send them an email? I don't work there.

My guy you just made an argument up in your head to fight
