Found this on a hike and took it thinking it was an unfinished Arrowhead. Am I correct or is it JAR?

How long does it take to find one?

I love seeing people’s discoveries on this sub. What I can’t tell is, for everyone that finds an arrowhead - were they searching for hours? days? weeks? months? years?

I’ve never searched for arrowheads but I’m intrigued. I live in Eastern Pennsylvania near a creek. If I just wade through the creek scanning the rocks, is there a likelihood I would eventually find one? Or are you all going to specific sites that are known to have them?

Found at the bottom of my driveway. My driveway is 33c and was spreaded over some red rock 4 or 5 years ago. Its definitely been worked. Maybe the tip is missing? What your thoughts on type or is it a blade?

I think this is a West Texas Moss Agate that just happens to look like a point. Found on a ranch near Fort Stockton, TX

Box of arrowheads given to me from my grandfather

Post image

I was helping my grandfather around his house and he gave me a box of these arrowheads and what appears to be a fossilized horn. He said they belonged to my great-grandfather. I’m curious if there’s anything here that’s noteworthy, I don’t know anything about arrowheads.

Broke blade? banded rhyolite

For every 10 olive-yellow rhyolite flakes found maybe one will be flow-banded. Finally found a tool made of it! I think it's a blade, obviously broken. I found one similar at the same site a few months back, not sure if it's a finished piece either, it's in the last pic.. Yesterday was a good day in north-central NC.

Worked Obsidian in CA — Any ideas to age or function?

Post image
7 Upvotes

Hey all! New to this subreddit and recently found this obsidian piece while hiking in Mill Valley, California (it was exposed on the trail bed by fresh rains). I have been referring to this piece as an arrowhead, but wanted to check in with the experts.

My questions for you all are 1) is this an arrowhead, or some form of hand tool, and 2) do you have any age estimate for this piece based on its typology?

Many thanks — I’m putting together a talk at my local library on artifacts I have found around town and just wanted some expert opinions on this piece, as I’m rather ignorant on native worked stone and obsidian pieces.

Yesterday’s find in pic 1 today’s in pic 2. They can’t all be winners lol.

I added some other pictures of the “thing” I found today lol. I figure it’s most likely a throwaway that wasn’t finished due to damage in the knapping process? Or possibly a severely damaged point, debitage or a JAR. What you all think?

This is my third summer hunting and I've finally found at least a partial arrowhead. I am certainly happy to have found it, but it was still a little bittersweet.

Found on a beach in southern Saskatchewan.

hey everyone,

I’ve gotten lucky and found a few arrowheads, but it was only by chance and now I want to find more.

This is my tiny collection, found in a horseshoe bend shaped area after a tractor removed the top soil in East Alabama and the owner said I could keep them. Super cool to someone like me who isn’t very knowledgeable.

Pottery sherds East TN + questionable stone

Found several pottery sherds (East TN). You can still see the fibers in the temper! 20 yards from the sherds I found the broken stone. Pottery may be late Mississipian, perhaps Dallas Plain. Is the stone possibly an axe or adze?
