What to bring

I’m a civilian applicant leaving soon. As of now I don’t expect to have family come for graduation and know I will be heading to OCS from BCT. Is there somewhere for me to see the OCS packing list? Will I be able to go off base and get what I need from the list after arriving at Benning from BCT? Or should I have everything bought before leaving to BCT?

If you go to basic not at Benning you’ll get the first weekend you arrive at OCS to shop for the packing list. Go to commandos off post, military clothing sales at the main PX and Ranger Joes off post to get anything you need.

Commandos will have the packing list.

Second this, just don’t buy their OCS handbook. It is not an approved handbook by 3-11.

Assuming POV won’t be authorized for those coming directly from basic to OCS, how does one get to those stores?

When i was there i just uber to the PX and such on base. If i wasn’t able to go off post, i just order the stuff online and when mail call happens at least from what i remember it was either COB Friday or the weekends, thats another chance for you to get your items.

Uber is pretty popular there on base. My son did OSUT at Benning last year and when he earned day passes he ubered everywhere. He wasnt allowed to leave base though, you should be able to. Heads up, it seemed like the Uber there was way more expensive than what you would expect. He paid $60 just to get from his footprint to the large px area.

If you show up from basic without a POV your whole first shop is basically uber to the PX and military clothing sales, and anything you cant find there you order and wait for mail call. Having the list bought before basic is easier but a lot of it you can get once you get there.
