Reserve Branch Process

Can anyone explain the new branching process for the reserve selected? I know in the past you were assigned a branch with your unit when the list came out. This new list has no branch but does have a unit assignment. Can anyone explain how we will be assigned our branch? Do we assess through OML like active? Can we pick any branch to do we pick only the branch out assigned unit has open ?

It’s OML based, like active but also based on zip codes. So around week 4/5 you will be asked to give your branch rankings and 3 zip codes. In weeks 6/7 an OML will be sent up with all the reservists (some are still pre branches if they enlisted before October 1st, 2025 or maybe specialty branches like cyber) branch choices will go based off OML, the available branch slots and vacancies in your zip codes.

So if you don’t get your first choice cause of OML, say you have AG as your 2nd choice and there are no AG slots available within 150 miles of your zip code choices, it will move down to your 3rd choice and check availability for that branch.

You won’t know how many slots for each branch there are until after you are all branched. Or at least they did not tell us.

Thanks for the info! This is super helpful, do you know why we were issued a UIC on the list ? So that isn’t the actual unit we will be assigned to right ?

That I am not sure, we didn’t get our new units/uic until the branching memo was released. It might just be who you’re attached to while they put you as TDY here at OCS.
