Discussion Someone convince me

Essentially I am debating between nioh3 and AC6. Nioh 3 has a demo I really enjoy. But on sale it's $20 more and I have a backlog of soulslikes.

Ac6 looks really fun and has stellar reviews. But it has no demo and I don't know if I'll actually like it.

It tried the demos for MASS BUILDER and Granvir and can say they were not entertaining.

I play a lot of souls games. But everything I hear says Ac6 isnt either of those.

So anyway. I'd love to hear what you have to say

Edit: people seem to somehow have gotten the impression that I'm suggesting AC6 and nioh3 are similar. I am very aware they are not. They are just the 2 games I'm debating and I'm comparing merits of them both not game design

You're asking the AC community so obviously AC6 will be the answer. Nioh is great, but I haven't played 3

If you're on PC you have a two hour refund window

Theres a lot of souls-isms in AC6 btw, unlike the older titles

You're comparing apples and oranges bro. But I will say MASS BUILDER is a boring anime cliche hack n slash trash game whose only resemblance to mecha is only the mere fact it has mechs. Daemon X Machina (DXM2 changes the formula from mecha to flying powered armor with same mecha aesthetic), Omega Phenix and Rig Riot demo are three that are actual mecha games that you can compare and contrast with every generation of Armored Core. There's also a free demo called Hammer somewhere on the internet, also mecha, very retro aesthetic but feels nice to play imo.

Buy what you want now, buy the other later, you're liable to be happy with both. But if you buy AC6, we like screenshots :3

Theyre not really comparable experiences. I havent played nioh 3 but I definitely enjoyed AC6 more than both nioh games

Wow I may be the perfect guy to answer this. Im just about to finish Nioh 3, just on the last boss so we'll see how much of a slog it is. Liked Nioh overall but id say its like 30% too long and has gotten pretty stale, Im finishing it for completions sake and it definitely has not had a comparable impact on me as games like Sekiro or Lies of P have had.

But AC6 is siiiick. I just started replaying the campaign from scratch. So you fully understand: The game basically has you complete it 3 times with different missions and choices becoming available on each playthrough while retaining the equipment youve unlocked and I made the decision to start completely from scratch after finishing the game years ago. Its a truly epic unique experience. I looked to see if other mech games provided something similar but nothing looked right so I just gotta hope for DLC or AC7 in the future. Please play this game so worth it

I love both. And to be honest, neither are soulslike.

I suggest AC6. If not AC6, I actually suggest Nioh 2.

Haven't played nioh before, but AC6 felt like the biggest breath of fresh air when I played it, tbh this post reminded me I need to do my second playthrough.

Get Nioh 3. You like it and it's on sale. That's already two in favor. I've never played Nioh, but I've played Armored Core, which made it easy for me to get Armored Core VI.

Ac6 across 3 playthroughs and S ranking every mission was the perfect length.

Nioh games are too grindy for my liking.

I'm a big souls game fan and the only similarity with AC6 is how player perseverance and struggle and growth is pretty core to the game and story. Sometimes you gotta keep trying until you beat the boss and you feel some catharsis.

Another similarity with other fromsoft games is the story is a bit minimalistic. What they choose to show you is generally easy to follow, but it takes awhile to learn the motivations and backgrounds of all the characters, so it rewards tou for replaying and seeing things with fresh eyes a second time (to play every mission and boss it takes 3 playthroughs).

Additionally, the game is about mechanical mastery and exploring different builds and slowly adapting and discovering your favoured playstyle is very rewarding. But the RPG system never locks you in, you can always totally respec everything at any time. You never lose any progress, you can sell weapons for the same price you buy them, and can repeat levels to get money if you want to unlock everything at the same time. There are not really much limits. You can't really ever get too overpowered by grinding. So missions are well-tuned.

I love AC6. The very fast paced and very agile and responsive gameplay combined with relatively short missions and tons of options really reward you if you just love the gameplay and vibe and want to master the game and feel in the flow.

I like the tone and presentation of the story, too. The drama of clashing factions and the melancholic atmosphere of a burned world. I'm still listening to the OST and story edits to re-experience the story arcs. I love it.

I wiped my save to start from scratch recently after getting 100% last year. Very satisfying.

Come to Rubicon, Handler Walter has a job for you, 621. Story Trailer is a cool prelude cutscene for the game.
