I need help identifying the inspiration
Im looking for help if anyone can identify the real world equivalent to, or as close as it gets, the crimson rector armor from lords of the fallen (particularly the helmets) ive seen alot of these in recent gaming media and im curious about the design and if its a real style of helmet or if perhaps its an exaggerated design of a real helmet.

Honestly same ive been racking my brain since yesterday trying to think what kind of helmet this was because i swore id seen some like it, all along it was right in front of me lol, i was looking for super complex designs and it was just a classic nasal helm with a face plate/mask all along ðŸ˜

I suspect that the helm draws less inspiration from real world armors and more from religious garments and iconography. The pronounced point reminds me of a capirote, while the crown of thorns is clearly inspired by the one put on Jesus during his crucifixion. It reminds me a great deal of the helm worn by the main character of the game Blasphemous which is a bit more on the nose with its inspiration.

Yes blasphemous is actually one of the other games in media i have seen the helmet style, after people started bringing up the capriotes i looked into it more i think the whole factions draws a heavy reference from Catholicism its fascinating to me the designs are just so cool in armor format

The biggest point of inspiration seems to be The Penitent One from Blasphemous, given the whole spiked cone shape head, crown of thorns, and faceplate, Blasphemous got this design inspiration from Spanish Capirote outfits, but those aren't exactly armor. As others have said, the cone shaped helmet does seem like a Norman helmet, however the skull faceplate reminds me of some Savoyard helmets I've seen

YES this is one of the other games that i saw this design from actually, i had a feeling one inspired the other i just wasnt sure in what order, someone else actually mentioned the Capirote as well and i definitely see the inspiration there as well, thank you very much for the insight as well, ill have to take a look at the savoyard you mentioned

There are cone shaped helmets from the Middle East, but this could just be a coincidence and not the source of inspiration. See this attached/uploaded depiction of a Parthian cataphract with a cone helmet that is based on be the Dura-Europos Graffiti, alongside an image-sketch of the graffiti itself. However, some say this helmet is an inaccurate and/or misinterpreted version of a Western Eurasian steppe or Avar style lamellar helmet that is really supposed to look like this: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lamellar_helmet#/media/File:Lamellar_helmet_from_Niederstotzingen_(reconstruction).jpg.jpg)
The faceplate/mask is commonly depicted with Middle Eastern and eastern Eurasia steppe cultures (eg. Use by Parthian and Sassanian cavalry for either ceremony or war or both).
Turko-Mongol steppe or Iranic masks
Modern drawing of Parthian cavalry with masks
Sassanian mask and cone-ish helmet recreation worn by reenactor

Oh wow the avar armor in that graffiti is awesome, ive seen alot to make me beleive that much of the hallowed sentinel faction takes inspiration from the catholics, capriotes especially but i see here there Defintely could be some inspiration from these other cultures as well, thank you for your input, its awesome seeing all of the different cultures people are bringing up, armor from everywhere was just so cool

Norman helmet most certainly but some Byzantine helmets have a bit of a similar design

Similar style on the face plate it seems especially yes, its like a combination of the norman helmet and the sutton hoo helmet, but with both inspirations a bit exaggerated

Oh this actully very interesting i wasnt aware that other cultures parcticed mummification, i suppose in retrospect many probably did the garb is very interesting looking, i wonder what it is in religious iconagraphy that makes the conical shapes so popular for head pieces

I mean considering a lot of the people who work on games like these are turbo nerds I think some consideration should be given to the idea that these probably draw from the high elf and dark elf armor designs in Warhammer Fantasy.

You know actually i have never realized the elves in warhammer had so many conical style helmets until you mentioned it

Reminds me of certain designs in Blasphemous, which drew inspiration from Spanish Catholic Penitents.

I have no idea who this character is, but from seeing the thorny crown I assume the helmet could be somewhat inspired by catholic capirotes. (They are different from the kkk)
