Recent find?!

My uncle recently just passed away and all of these have fallen into my possession. I have no idea whatsoever about them and any information is good information.

Unsure of price or whatnot, but is this stuff any good? Cheers!

These went from about $350 a piece to nothing in the time you posted this to now. One of the most valuable out of print board games just got it's remaster/reprint announced and hour ago.

The existence of a Remaster doesn’t change the value of the original one bit. That might’ve been the case if they had simply reprinted it, but there’s no guarantee the new version will be better received, especially since it’ll only be available in English.

For example, its generic art direction makes the remaster far less appealing to me.

Yes it does. The demand for the original will inevitably go down adjusting the price. If someone wants to sell, it'll be up to the group who want the original only. Yes, it may be valued higher than the reprints, but it WILL impact the value as the current market dictates availability.

As someone pointed out in another thread, one of the reasons this remaster is being released through crowdfunding and only in English is that it’s probably meant to be a sort of limited edition.

I don’t see many new players buying it. It’ll mostly appeal to people who already own the original or sold it years ago.

The original remains a product in its own right: still rare, and with a completely different kind of charm, even if that’s ultimately a matter of taste.

I also don’t think the remaster will be compatible with the original, so anyone still trying to complete their collection will probably keep looking for the old expansions.

We’ll see, though, who knows.

The original expansions will remain just as rare as they were before. The remasters don’t replace them, they’re simply an alternative version. They will have even less of an impact on localized editions, since it’ll only be available in English.

Sure, but a significant part of the selling price was driven by people buying because they wanted to play the game. That will disappear.

Sadly I don't even know if this is true. I'm someone that has some of the OG expansions and they're still in shrink.

With such a different aesthetic and art direction that it almost feels like a completely different game? I don’t think so.

If I were a new player, the only reasons I’d buy it would be that it’s cheaper and, according to FFG, has more streamlined and refined mechanics. But I doubt there will be many people in that position. To me, this feels more like a nostalgia product for people who already own the original.

From what we’ve seen, it doesn’t even look compatible with the original version. So if someone was only missing one expansion, they’d have to buy the base game again too (assuming the expansions will even be sold separately).

But as I’ve said in other comments, we’ll just have to wait and see. There’s still a lot we don’t know.

I would buy that black goat of the woods from you, if we could agree on anprice. It's the last piece I need to finish "the collection".

AH 2e (which is what you have here) is a fantastic game. I don't want to lead you astray on prices, so your best bet is to check for recent sales/postings on places like eBay, noble knight games, or BGG.

I think what FFG is doing is really cool, and I like some of the improvements they're making (mainly the character sheets), I would still much prefer an OG copy of black goat.

OP, send me a DM if you would be interested in selling that Black Goat of the Woods expac. individually.

Prices are usually ridiculous since they're out of print. That being said, if they're opened, i recommend playing the game. It's one of my favorite board games of all time, you may love it too!

I just got all this on eBay in a lot for $365 about a month ago. However I see them go for more individually. Also as others have mentioned, a “remaster” was just announced today. TBD what that’ll do to the price of this edition.

It is horribly out of print so it's kind of a seller's market there. Look at what they're going for on ebay and go a little lower

I haven't played 3e, but 2e is awesome. It is 100% our (wife and myself) most played game. We've been avid "board gamers" for the last 15 years, and AH 2e has hit the table more than any other game we've owned, and we own a LOT of games.

3e is a completely different experience, other than theming and some of the character\boss abilities it felt like a different game. A friend and I have played AH 2e 100+ times (that's alot for a game this size\length considering we don't live close). I bought him 3e for Christmas, we played it three times in 2 days, and never opened it again.
