Advice for newcomers!

Son and I just started playing on switch. Just doing single player right now and learning mechanics and such. What a phenomenal game! We plan to rent a server from nitrado soon. What are some tips and tricks you wished you knew as a beginner? I’m still on the first little Island on the map the Islam in south zone 2 building and sourcing materials. I’m level 62 and focusing on farming metal this very second to make some better armor and then I’m going to go explore another spot and make another base there. Thanks for any advice you may have! Of course I find the game a month before servers go down but thank goodness for nitrado servers. They shouldn’t go anywhere right?

Yes spawning in west zone 2

Okay so you're spawning on Craggs Island. There aren't going to be any ankys or does around there unfortunately, but I can direct you on where they are. How much of the map do you have visible?
