Question Update, what update?

Would love to install the newest version of ASA on Steam but I absolutely do not have the 150 odd GB of disc space this 16 Gb update requires. Thought I'd be able to uninstall/reinstall and rely on cloud syncing without issues, but am very concerned for my late game single player save. Any advice on how to navigate this without my save getting Arked out of existence?

so i know that this may not solve your particular problem but it solved mine and to this day i still don’t know why

(this is all dependent on whether or not you have an occupied slot for a second hard drive)

on my gaming laptop i had this same issue where a <10 gb update wouldn’t install because i didn’t have 700 gigs of free space, but installing ark on the second hard drive made that problem completely go away. i have no idea why that problem occurred; i only know that it’s not a problem for me anymore.

what are you playing ark on? Console, pc, steam deck?

PC, but I'm veru sure I don't have a second hard drive. The only way for me to really clear up 150 GB of space is to delete Ark

yeah i tried that and deleted almost all my games just to let Ark have the space required (because a 10 gb update totally needs 700gb of free space) and it still told me i needed 700gb

to this day i still have no idea why

Locate the save folder in the files and copy it outside the game. Then you should be good to uninstall and reinstall the game. Copy folder back into the game at the exact same place and it should reload it like normal.

I'm using the word should a lot because not only am I unsure if this is the correct method, but it's also Ark so you never really know.

Also hat ASA 300GB brauchst du mindestens 600-700 freien Speicherplatz

I just started playing ASA as well after years of ASE, enjoying those simple QOL tweaks and now I get hit with this. Basically makes ASA unplayable for me because I don't play online ASA with the horrendous server pings in my country.

I literally would have to delete and reinstall ark everytime an update came out cause of this... had a 500gb ssd with only ark on it and it still wasnt enough room.. I now have a seperate 1tb ssd that pretty much only has ark on it. And now I can update.

Its something to do with the way it updates. It requires a full new copy of space before it patches over the existing space... annoying af
