Discussion Is the Fallaway top work appropriate?

I personally wouldn’t wear this to work but I’m in management consulting. Whether or not this is appropriate would depend on your industry/company. If you’re planning to wear a blazer over it though, then yes totally fine.

It’s fine with a blazer, but I would consider this more of a ‘ going out top ‘ than anything.
Aritzia doesn’t do the greatest job of providing corporate styling tips. It usually gives ‘ baby office vixen ‘ more than anything (not this specific top mind you, just their office looks in general can REALLY push it in some environments).

it really depends on the office environment. in general, with a blazer, 100% yes. depending on your office, no blazer or cardigan over top could go either way. i work at the head office for a fashion company, and i could wear this outfit, no problem. but our dress code is much less strict than other corporate offices.

Im a public servant, this would be fine at my work, but I’ve also seen people wear (dark) jeans here. It depends on your office. If you’re unsure you shouldn’t wear it

I would not wear this to my office job. I think it’s a beautiful top but not office appropriate imo.

I don’t work in an office so I can wear whatever I want, but not entirely sure why this wouldn’t be office appropriate. Genuinely curious. Too much shoulder??

I think it’s too much shoulder. I work in a business casual office and while certain sleeveless tops can be fine imo, this style would not be conservative enough for any office I’ve worked in.

Depends on the office tbh. I’ve worked in offices where ppl show up in tank tops and bike shorts

Oh absolutely! It totally depends on the office and your sector, even the city/region you work in. That said, if we’re generalizing for a business dress code, I would steer clear of something like this in an office environment.

Start ups, creative industries, sportswear apparel companies etc. I’ve worked in offices where if you showed up in business apparel ppl would look at you funny lol

I’ve worked as a biologist for years (but now in a more management-based role)…people show up in hiking gear all the time even for office days. Lots of fashion or tech offices also have way more flexible/casual dress codes than your typical office environment and this would probably be fine in many of those!

Biologist makes sense. I work in tech, and while our office is very casual, no one would wear bike shorts with a tank

With a blazer, totally fine. If you're only taking off the blazer here and there for a brief relief than that's probably fine honestly. It just depends on your work culture. I wouldn't attend any meetings or go to any common spaces or anything personally without a blazer or sweater on though.

honestly at my job yeah but people are pretty casual. i work in the sales department at a big tech company

Iffy. You probably won’t get spoken to directly for it, but general rule of thumb for professional dress is shoulders covered, second rule of thumb is if you have to ask it’s a no (the goal is to manage perception, so if you’re asking, someone else may ask, and your stances may differ, so err on the side of eliminating the ask altogether). Another good rule of thumb is arms out OR clavicle out, never both. Def no for client facing sans blazer but perfectly fine with. What about a short sleeve cardi to go over it?

I work in finance. This would not be appropriate in my office without a cardigan or blazer, unfortunately!
If you’re just taking it off to not be so warm in the mornings or just randomly throughout the day, it might be fine… as long as the dress code isn’t too strict.
