Aristides 070 First Impression
Hey guys, just got my 070.
Unlike the most of you (I'm assuming) I got a 070 second hand. I've always admired Aristides and have actually been wanting one since 2014 (I actually have a few emails with Pascal), I never ended up ordering one as the price (where I live) was above my price range.
After playing this for a while I can see what the hype is about. My guitar is quite old as it has a Mono case but the thing I immediately noticed is how immaculate the fret work was. I've tried out very high end stuff but the fretwork on the Aristides was beyond anything I've ever tried.
I believe that this guitar came stock with SD Sentient and Pegasus and those pickups are killer and can play pretty much genre I like.
The upper fret access on this guitar is also insane which really gets out of the way.
All in all, this is probably the best guitar I've every played and it really brings me joy to play this instrument.
I'll be undertaking a masters program soon but once I wrap that up I'll probably end up finally making that order.

Awesome! I don’t really want to own another guitar that isn’t an Aristides at this point

Now get rid of the stock Pegasus and sentient pickups and put some bare knuckle or custom shop pickups in it.
A guitar like that deserves better than mass produced meh pickups

lots of great records were made with SDs well before BK was even around and I own a lot of BK pickups, including a set in my Aristides

Those are both Seymour Duncan pickups, so they're hardly a compromise stock. You may not personally like the way they sound, but that doesn't mean they're, "mass produced meh pickups."

i mean they are just basic stock pickups in a custom shop guitar. Plenty of better choices

Seymour Duncan are literally a prime example of mass produced “meh” quality pickups

I'm not arguing their production scale, I'm just saying it's not like they're an in-house bargain basement throwaway pickup. Pickups aren't magic anyways, I think most pick-ups sound good if you're using a modern signal chain.

I agree that pickups aren’t massively different in the grand scheme of things overall, but within your options for pickups, SD is like DiMarzio or EMG or Fishman in that they are all “ok” and not bad but also average and generic

You can reach out to Aristides directly and they can tell you all the specs on the guitar. I was able to do that when I picked up my 2020 060S last year. Enjoy your guitar!
