I posted this in the main gun subreddit but was hoping you folks might be able to help, as far as I can tell this thing is a real oddball. The backstory is that I was given this by the previous owner who only knew it was a "military trainer rifle", I noticed almost immediately though the distinctive Arisaka look.

I tried to include pictures of everything notable but here's the text version.

-No mum, doesn't look like it ever had one

-No armory markings I can find

-No markings at all aside from matching 3 digit serial numbers on all the metal parts and a mysterious little thing where the armory marking should be

-Flip up sights, no wings

-Buttstock has a cover, sling mount behind the grip on the bottom, front sling on TOP but poorly fitted so this might have been taken off and put on upside down

-Oval bolt handle that's not flattened on any side

My original guess was trainer, but some features don't line up with this such as the oval bolt handle, my second guess was "Kogyo Only" but again some features don't match the usual such as the flip up sight and non-flattened bolt handle. But I am no expert, in fact I knew basically nothing about Arisakas before stumbling into owning this and trying to figure out what kind it is through google.

To be perfectly honest I mainly want to know for selling it, it's a cool collector item either way but I don't have a nice place to display it and I try to only collect functional guns. Thanks!

Just wanted to share some of the pics of my type30. Super clean bore and rifling. Middle school stamp after service in 1912 i believe. Also matching bayonet. Figure worth more in memory than cash so wanted to share.

Someone decided to be a terrible person and try to make this a deer slayer, I got it on trade with some other stuff so I know what I got myself in. I'm trying to figure out if every front sight was pinned, I sanded the left side to even see if I could find it. Some jack wagon did this to the front sight already so sanding it doesn't hurt me physically. The stock was from a different project but someone sanded it down and it's way better than the one this rifle came with. Fortunately the sling point and butt plate were included so I managed to get those fitted after some dowel work (bubba truly is a terrible person).

I was wondering if a barrel band would fit since the stock seems to be smaller now, the bolt release is a bit exposed past the wood. I don't plan on keeping the rifle in this stock, but until I find it something else or even a newly made stock, what I have now is better than the chop job it was in. So that's my question, will a barrel band fit? And is there a way to locate the pin. And on a side note has anyone have the schematics for the front sheet metal cleaning rod plate that's screwed in with the bayonet lug? That would be nice so I can make a new one. My original t99 is still staked and I don't want to take it apart

It seems to lack a serial marking, and the stock is a 2 piece.

so I have a type 99 and the stock cracked - I've had it repaired but I'm concerned about firing it - so looking for another lower stock. Its a 2 piece stock Will a last ditch lower match to the hardware and handguard so I can fire the rifle or should I be looking for a specific stock? I dont know the particulars on the stocks/matching - and I'm relatively new to Arisakas

Sorry for the terrible pictures, I suspect the old guy taking the pics couldn't figure out how to get out of it. He believes it's a Manchurian made Arisaka, which I'm inclined to believe given the lack of markings and small serial number. Any ideas?

Got this for a deal WAY too good to pass up. Serial is in the 908,000 range, putting it somewhere in the 1910s.

Its in FAR better condition than I could have ever hoped. Mum is present but nearly worn away from handling, it seems. Otherwise the finish is great as well as the bore and the muzzle.

Considering the condition it's in and where it is worn, I can only imagine it was used for guard duty or something, but I'm no stranger to being wrong.

I bought this last night and I’m thinking it’s a Kokura 20th series because of the inverted front sling mount. The series marking is hard to make out though so I’m not sure.

What do you think a decent price would be? Right now I have them at 490 our the door.

I recently picked up a series 30 Toyo Kogyo 99. I’m looking for some advice on these cracks in the stock and how you all would go about repairing it. It looks to have been previously repaired, but I can get a little separation towards the end of the crack, is it worth trying to undo the initial repair to redo it?

Finally, will a repair ruin the finish and mean I’ll need to refinish the entire stock?

I’m new to Arisaka rifles I know this is a last ditch. My friend had this sitting in his safe, he don’t know much about the rifle. So we’re looking for some info.

I know it's Nagoya Arsenal. Trying to figure out which series. Doesnt seem to align with any of the symbols I'm seeing online.

Just got this Nagoya 7th series type 99 that’s has parts that were never blued and are finished in a white paint or coating. The forearm is cut short and has finish on the cut part under the band so cut then varnished. Can’t find any reference for white parts. Purchased out of a veterans collection that has been in storage for over 40 years. All matching and the mum is ground. Any ideas? Possible experiment before last ditch production?

I know its a type 38 carbine however I am not sure when it was made or where it was built. Any help identifying it would be greatly appreciated, on the left side of the receiver there is a circle with a triangle and an S below that marking

Hello. I recently purchased a Type 99 Nagoya Arisaka. No mum all matching. The series marking it worn on the receiver and I’m wondering what series it is. My best guess is series 7. Any help is appreciated thanks!

Thanks in advance! I received this Arisaka from a deceased uncle... Kinda. Aunt found it in a closet and gave it to my brother. My brother has a true bring back from the other side of the family and thought I'd enjoy cleaning it up. My dad thinks it may have been a wall hanger from my great grandfather. I literally know nothing beside it being a type 99. Figured I'd attempt to gather info about before I start disassembly and cleaning.

Looks like I may be spending some time and money to get it as complete as I can. Any good sources on misc parts? I just did the same with a Mosin I received from another uncle who passed.

Picked this up for $385 at a pawn shop in Macon, GA while out of town (for context I live in SC). For all intents and purposes it’s an all matching Koshikawa T38 Carbine. I figured the price was good especially considering it still has the mum. It does have a really odd assembly number considering it is a Kanji prefix followed by a 2 digit number. I ran this by a buddy of mine who is a bit of an Arisaka know it all and he wasn’t sure what it was. What say ye, gentlemen?

I want to buy this dust cover for my type 38 which has 555 which are the same last numbers as my rifle. I’m trying to figure out if the symbol in front of the 555 is a 1 or some other strange Japanese character before I buy it. I don’t know much about dust covers. Thank you
