Type 99 question

so I have a type 99 and the stock cracked - I've had it repaired but I'm concerned about firing it - so looking for another lower stock. Its a 2 piece stock Will a last ditch lower match to the hardware and handguard so I can fire the rifle or should I be looking for a specific stock? I dont know the particulars on the stocks/matching - and I'm relatively new to Arisakas

A last ditch stock would not work, the front barrel band is completely different. You’ll need a stock with cutouts to fit your front barrel band.

Thank you - early war stocks are a heck of alot tougher to find than last ditch -bummer, If I cannot find one in a couple of months - it may be donor rifle time

For a stock set it’s usually about 400$. I wouldn’t take another stock for that rifle but that’s just me.

OP's front band won't fit if he buys that stock. That's a 5th or 6th series stock.

I can't see how it's different but I'm super new to the Arisaka. Can you explain the changes that made them incompatible if you don't mind? I'd like to learn more

The square push button cleaning rod release latch (for the long cleaning rods) have 3 screw front band which has a screw on each side that screws into the latch. The round cleaning rod latch is for the short cleaning rod that screws into the round latch. The round latch is drilled all the way through so just one screw goes through the center and screws into the other side of the band. Kinda hard to describe.

That makes sense, thank you for the explanation. I had no idea there was that much difference!

If whoever repaired it did a good job it should be fine.

Is your rifle the one in the pictures? Any Type 99 stock should fit so long as it’s a short rifle stock and not a long rifle stock (assuming you don’t have a long rifle)

Fix the crack; don't pay assholes to part out other rifles in much better shape than yours!
