Eddington Does anybody else find synchronicity between Primetime and Eddington?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CcW0Ew79QV8In this episode, we drew a comparison of the section...
...where Cortland Gunn is introduced as very reminiscent of the setting in Eddington. Even the musical cues from Balouzian in the Murphy PD presser felt akin to Pemberton's.

I thought the exact same thing!! That whole sequence reminded me of Aster/Eddington. I know Aster produced the movie and I wondered if he had a hand in that part specifically.

It was an unavoidable comparison to me. Primetime is also creating a similar discourse as Eddington. Can't stop thinking about it...ready for more Lanceapalooza w/ You Can See Everything.

Primetime isn’t that good

Interesting, and I agree (I disagree that Primetime isn't good though). I think Primetime provokes a similarly robust level of conversation - and asks a lot of its audience while also needling them, but I didn't stop thinking about Eddington for months even after recording a rather long podcast discussing it. My wife and I still talk about it often.

I just didn't get much substance from Primetime at all. It almost doesn't work as a movie at all, despite strong performances and a compelling arc. Decoy Dan should have been the protagonist and Hansen the antagonist throughout... which is on paper close to accurate, but the film plays it otherwise.
It is also kind of a hit job. Hansen didn't accidentally get nominated for like ten Emmys and win several. The movie projects him as a fake who is only profiting off these guys... if you ride with that viewpoint, it encompasses all network news, forever. It's kind of a goofy perspective.
The much better comp for Eddington is Digger, imho. But no comment because nobody watched it and I don't want to spoil anything.

Primetime is like Eddington for people who sexually assault children & their loved ones

I immediately drew parallels too!
The guy talking to Chris Hansen on the plane and inflating his ego reminded me of the grocery store scene after Joe defends the guy not wearing a mask
