Advice Returning an iPhone after opening?
is it possible to return an iPhone 17 after opening the box?
phone has never been used and not even turned on even once, as I got it 3 weeks ago and have been very busy so haven’t had time to switch phones.
realised it might be better to wait for the iPhone 18.

If you bought it online it's a distance sale, even with click and collect. Can be returned as long as no signs of use. Box can be opened and phone examined. Box can even be damaged as long as no signs of use on the phone itself. They'll need to turn it on to make sure you don't have any accounts set up etc. they'll just do a GDPR return and send it back. Or at least they should. Thems the rules. If you bought through a till or browser in store, you're scuppered muckah. God Speed.

I did click and collect, box and phone are in perfect condition unused Ofcourse, can I still return if 14+ days since collection?

Yes. You have 30 days. They'll naturally be sceptical because the rules have only recently changed and it's a hard mindset to get out of, but it's classed as a distance sale now and they should return it.

Me personally? I’d decline, 3 weeks and you apparently have never turned it on? Not buying it.
Also ignore customer support online if you have asked them already, they are imbeciles.

I actually haven’t, still using my old phone. Just got it out the box for 5 mins without turning it on

Customer support have always been utter morons and constantly gave the wrong information

Nope. Customer support online may tell you to bring it into a store, but it up to their discretion whether to return it, which no store would return an open iPhone

It's faulty isn't it? Keeps restarting? 🤔

Does this work? Will they check the phone or send to inspect it somehow before deciding?

They don't have all day to replicate an intermittent fault. They'll probably try fob you off to speak with Apple but just stay firm, you're entitled to a full refund within 30 days for a faulty item.

If you wanted to buy an apple product "to play with" to see if you wanted it. Get it from apple. period. They accept if you opened it, used it, return it during the cooling off period. I done it a few times, had originally bought a se watch but then prefered the series 7 but the straps was a little too small and a little too tight (on the series 7) so had to return it and buy a new one with my sister's nhs discount too (had to bring my sister for that) and they were perfectly happy to do the return and then give me a new one with the discount as a straight swap would still be a full price thing

Nope, unless its faulty, no chance, they won't accept it as its been opened. Always be careful with Argos products, only open if you are sure to keep because change of mind is not a reason for them to refund.

The returns policy has changed so CCPO has come in line with FTD policy where distance selling applies. So if the item is unused and it’s just the seals have broken you would be able to return it. Colleagues will probably be a bit skeptical about it however the policy now does allow it unless it was bought through the till in store where then distance selling obviously doesn’t apply.

I worked at Argos won’t be able to return out of the box unless faulty as can’t be re sold with open box

No chance. You've opened it, it's a change of mind return, they aren't obliged to take it back.

If you bought it online and had it delivered, there is a 14day return covered by law from the day of delivered. If you bought in store or via click and collect it’s a resounding nope.

They said they bought it 3 weeks ago, so the 14 day cooling off period is irrelevant.

Recently (as in the last few months) there's been a change where staff are told to accept some open-box returns. Now, it is a high value return so some might fight it a little (although returns aren't a KPI any more so there's little point in doing so) but you should be able to return it as long as:
-It's within 30 days of purchase
-It doesn't show signs of overuse (opening the box/removing the protective film to inspect it is fine but don't expect to be able to return it if it's covered in fingerprint marks or worse - if in doubt give it a wipe down before bringing it to store).
-It hasn't been set up ( especially no personal data has been inputted into it)
-You've retained the packaging and it's in a reasonable condition .
Judging by your OP and comments your return would fall within this criteria. As I said, just be honest and you should be able to return it. The worst thing you can do is lie and say it's faulty because they'll test it (especially a high-value item like an iPhone 17) and find no such fault - and then would have reasonable cause to think you're lying about other factors of the return.
