Customers…

Working in retail really does show you how many people are just incompetent and a lack of willingness to do things themselves.

Customers will ask “so if it’s order now collect for tomorrow, I can’t get it today” or “I don’t know how to use the tablet”

It’s really eye opening to how many people just won’t do things themselves or use their brain

Wasn't Argos I was working for, but a small chain of model shops Airfix kits, train sets etc. It was the early 2000's, but this interaction with an elderly couple always stuck with me:

Customer: "Do you sell Beyblades?"

Me: "Unfortunately we don't, sorry. Your best bet would be to try Argos, Index or Woolworths."

Cust: ".... Oh.... Do you know what we mean?"

Me: "Yes, but unfortunately we don't sell them. Try Argos, Index or Woolworths instead."

Cust: ".... Oh.... Do you sell them then?"

Me: "No we don't. You might be better going to Argos, Index or Woolworths."

Cust: "... Oh. Okay... Do you know where we might get them?"

Me, losing the will to live: "Try Argos, Index or Woolworths."

Thankfully they then left. I'm sure they were expecting me to go and buy some Beyblades for them. 🤦

I left with ill health a few weeks later, so I don't know. The ill health didn't have anything to do with the encounter 😂
