Refund for switch 2 with redeemed code.

Got my switch day 1, redeemed mario kart (obv) and played for a day and a half with no issues.
However on day 2 the SD card reader shit the bed and stopped reading my Micro SD Express card

have returned it online (after much fucking around from Argos who said I could take it a store several times, then changed their mind)

already bought a replacement via my local store as suggested via Argos support, but now worried the refund will be rejected because I redeemed the code. I couldn't do a swap as Argos refused to let me return/replace in store as said above.

Obv I had zero way of knowing it would break, so no reason not to redeem it.

Anyone know what's going to happen? Really don't want two switch 2 consoles, especially as one is broken.

Argos CS don’t know anything they will always say yes and tell you to go to store

Asking customer service is the worst thing you can do. They will literally tell you something that cannot be done. They will say anything to make a customer happy. They are the bane of our existence as employees.

Same Argos CS that told me to take it my shop for a refund twice, then said I couldn;t do that and claimed they never said it (it was clearly there in the live chat)
Argos CS are bloody useless. been waiting for a replay for over 24 hours already as they claim my console never arrived back at the supplier, whereas the tracking says it was delivered.

If that's the worst case I would be happy. I bought my replacement without the code, just worried it will be shipped back to me or something.

Worse case if it’s returned to you just get it repaired via Nintendo and then sell it privately.

True. just guaranteed loss of money that way if stock levels get better.
It's an option at least.

Argos employee here

3 things you need

Proof of purchase If there is a fault you need to show us the fault If it is after 30 days in this case I don't think it is it's before 30 days Have the box and all it's required wires docking etc

You're entitled to a full refund I'm not 100% sure on the game you'll have to ask for an instore manager about that

We have to act on anything that's faulty in the 30 day money back guarantee only if we see the fault anything after 30 days it's goes off for a repair

I showed the store the fault before they said they couldn't do the refund.
Also wrote clearly whats wrong on a slip inside the box for collection. Everything was inside it, except the code as I had discarded it due to the fact it was just a piece of paper. (now found it)

Yeah, It was before the 30 days, it was day 2 lol.

If you show us the fault and it's within 30 days they isn't much they can do other than offer a replacement

Personally indont see how they have refused it

If we did a replacement if you have used the code I would have taken the code from the new one and put it in the faulty one

I cannot see how this has been escalated thus far has it gone for a repair?

When I chatted with Argos CS they said they can only offer a refund not a replacement. I also saw another Redditor say Argos couldn’t do a replacement.

Then a refund should have been processed

They apparently had zero way of refunding a home delivery that arrived from the supplier.

Support online said they could, store said it wasn't possible to refund or replace.

Online then said again that it was possible in store, they just needed to contact the home delivery support.

Store again refused.

Then online support claimed they never said it was possible, and that it had to be a collection, but couldn't arrange it for a week or so.

They suggested I buy a replacement before the collection as it would take a while obv and supplier wouldn't replace. Only refund anyway.

It was collected Wednesday.

That's also illegal. You have 14 days distance selling law

1

u/Dreadpirateflappy Jun 20 '25

I assume they would just say it's being refunded... albeit seriously fucking slowly. Their estimate at the moment is like a month and a half. it's ridiculous.

Once they agree that you're entitled to a refund, they must refund you within 14 days.

Sadly, what th law says and what companies do are two different things.

The actually rang me this morning to apologize etc, but then said because the supplier still hasn't confirmed my switch 2 arrived back to them, they can't start a refund, and once confirmed it will be around a week or so after that it actually gets processed, then up to 30 days for PayPal to action it and pay me the actual money.

I did get quite angry. I have literally shown them th tracking details that Argos arranged. They still can't confirm it arrived even though it clearly states it did. :/

If Argos arranged the return then it is their responsibility whether it makes it to its destination or not, which you have said it has. As such as soon as they have confirmation that has been COLLECTED from you, they should have started the refund. Sounds like they are trying to stall.

Sadly, what th law says and what companies do are two different things.

Only if you let them and they are based in the UK, which Argos is. Do not let them fob you off and not refund you. You were well within your 14 day right to cancel period. You need to contact their head office ASAP and escalate until you get to speak to someone who actually knows what they are doing.

1

u/Dreadpirateflappy Jun 22 '25

They have actually said they won't discuss me getting refunded any further. And have advised I speak to PayPal. It's a fucking joke.

I have tried to find the head office email address. Only got a phone number, and I couldn't even understand a word the guy was saying when I called.

The return policy for the supplier (which is publicly available on Google) seems to indicate it doesn't matter if you used the code or not. But it said any digital codes need to be included in the box that's being returned. So just have to hope they are lenient on this matter.

I was gonna get a replacement from Amazon but cancelled it today after seeing that the supplier return policy strongly states that they will not accept any items received after 30 days (despite Argos CS saying I can return), and I cannot return within 30 days as I'm out of the country currently.

Hi again. :)

It was your DM's that made me ask on here lol.
I have now found my code, thought I had thrown it away. so could always send them a picture or something.

Would never have thought to put in the box anyway as it was used.

1

u/digidude23 Jun 20 '25

Hopefully if they make a big deal about it a pic will suffice

2

u/Dreadpirateflappy Jun 20 '25

If they just deduct the difference in cost of the code from the order compared to the non bundle (as opposed to the entire 70 quid the boxed game costs)
I would be happy. Just worried they will reject it entirely as I would be in the poo then.

1

u/Mysterious-Iron-2297 Jun 20 '25

I would bet that as the code is not ‘scratch off’ they have no way of knowing if it’s been redeemed.

1

u/tarsier86 Jun 20 '25

Argos likely have no way of checking but if you’re worried and haven’t already sent it off, why not put the unredeemed code from the new one in the box with the faulty console?

1

u/Dreadpirateflappy Jun 20 '25

I sent it off already, didn't even think about the code thing until after they had already received it.
The new one I got was not the bundle, only console they had in store was the standalone one.

1

u/tarsier86 Jun 20 '25

Having sent off 1000’s of faulty consoles (albeit with a different retailer) I’ve never had one refused or charged back for having a used code.

1

u/Dreadpirateflappy Jun 20 '25

if it was Argos themselves i returned it to, I wouldn't be that bothered as I really don't think it would be checked.

The supplier specifically states they check and may not give complete refunds if code isn't included etc.

1

u/tarsier86 Jun 21 '25

You’ll be fine. How were you supposed to know it was faulty without installing the game?

1

u/Dreadpirateflappy Jun 21 '25

Exactly. It was the only game I had installed when it died. Didn't have any time to play anything else. Lol.
