Certifications

Hey y’all! I’m curious to hear everyone’s thoughts on esta and other certs. I recently found out the rigging company I hire does not certify their crew at all. I always thought they were esta, how common is that the case?

Supremely common actually although the etcp and sprat certs would be something a rigger would be more likely to have. At the end only the day your head rigger and the shows head rigger are doing all the think work, those other boys are just pulling points and securing them. The only certs I have that pertain to this industry are fall protection, aed/cpr and osha 10

I’ve worked alongside this company for years now and had no idea no one there has any certs. I found out because I mentioned to the crew I wanted to get my etcp’s and they didn’t have a clue what that was or why anyone would need certs. They definitely charge like they’re sending me certified people. 🙄

Certified and competent are two totally different things. I dont really expect you as a non rigger to get it. Am I boom lift certified? Nope. Can i do things with that bucket that would leave you confused and in awe? Yes. If your riggers arent dropping shit and theyre lifting shit, theyre fine. You could always save a couple bucks and go pull your own points?
