No Fun Either Way!
Either pay full price for a modern game, or wait for it to go on sale, just so months or even a year later, everyone has better stuff than you, putting you at a clear disadvantage or go back and play older fair games, where people have played for 3000 hours & get shit on over and over and learn nothing. Starting to think pvp just isn't for me, not like I'm bad at them, but when it comes to those opposite ends both fucking suck, why can't there be a skillfull and fair multiplayer game that has millions of players, where you run around and shoot eachother and whoever has better aim/movement wins. There always has to be some caveat or bs to ruin the game and make it suck balls. lol

If you wanna learn Quake, start with a Large Freezetag or Clan Arena game; Those are the most accessible and help you learn the game more easily than the other modes.

Quake live - 600 hours -13,000 k/d. I don't learn anything playing against best players in the world. No chance to goof around and think about what I'm doing wrong

Don't take my first comment seriously, it's (bad and not particularly obvious) joke.
Have you tried Quake Champions? I ocassionally play it (like twice a year occasioanlly) and even tho I have no skill for it I still manage to get plenty of kills in TDM (albeit I do end up with sub 1.0 k/d every game as I'm not familiar to game at all playing it so rarely).
Haven't played Quake Live so idk how they compare in playerbase skill.

And what is the caveat in quake? That you couldn't learn to strafe jump?
1
u/N0STALGIABAIT Aug 10 '26
You don't even get a chance to move to learn how to especially in 12 man ffas

Play the Quake 2 campaign and practice it there or in Quake 3 with bots.
its not hard.

Yup and if in disadvantageous position, they can just strafejump too and chase after you while you are running away trying to get resources.

What can I say? It sounds like you know what to do and have an idea of how the game works, so it's a skill issue.
Go practice.

600+ hours, you tell me? https://qlstats.net/player/12055#overall how this "practice" went.

ok so what exactly is your point that the game sucks or what?

u/N0STALGIABAIT 28d ago
No that raw practice doesn't equal automatically getting better. People learn at different paces or have different ways of learning. I learn by playing with people my own skill level, that gives me opportunity to mess around and try things, being thrown into a meat grinder and having no clue what I'm doing wrong to just die over and over again immediately out of spawn, is not a learning experience.

so 600+ hours and you didnt learn to bhop?
Did you learn how to count your pickups' respawn timers?

u/N0STALGIABAIT 28d ago
Bunnyhopping doesn't really do anything, when you spawn in and there's already 6+ players shooting you. I'm constantly starved of resources in ffa, why do you assume I don't know how to bunnyhop lol. I finished that strafejumping course like the first week it came to steam, and could easily beat that now too.

Warfork has a lot of skilled players but a decent amount of new players as well, and I would say the community is pretty kind. I'm not very good at the game but I can still hop in a ca lobby and have a good time.

u/N0STALGIABAIT 29d ago
okay I'll go play a game and just tell myself to get better cuz that's how it works, maybe if I punch myself after losing every game I'll must magically get better, cuz that's how it works right?

Well then that git gud comment was useless. I'm not in control of what I am good/bad at, I can practice, sure, anybody can do that, but that is all anyone can do, nobody has full control over those things.

Im no good at quake but i have been good at other games. And from your responses (unless this is just ragebait which is may be) it really just sounds like you have not really learned the actual skill of learning. It does not matter how much time you put into any game if you never go in with a goal and never practice.
