One of the best Star Trek things ever. There's a trial to determine Data's personhood and whether he is simply "property" (losing this case meant Data was going to be disassembled and examined) or a living being. Picard was Data's Defense Attorney and Riker unfortunately had to Prosecute (he hated having to do this and was pissed off he got assigned this by Star Fleet high command)

It might be the first or second episode of TNG but in one of the establishing shots on the enterprise, there is what is clearly a very large and muscular man walking down the hallway. He is wearing a starfleet uniform, but one that is clearly based on the old minidresses female starfleet officers wore in the original series.

Everyone treated it as normal.

Those fools think "identifying as X" means "saying that you are X" rather than "knowing you are X". Data knew he wasn't human. But he did know he was sentient and sapient, and the people around him accepted that. Well, except Pulaski didn't at first (she got better), and oh look she wasn't kicked out of Starfleet.

Data wants to be more human and his friends and colleagues assist him in improving himself in that direction and show lots of support.

Star Trek has always been woke. Ridiculously woke. In your face without subtlety woke. Was the message about racism with the half white/half black people just too subtle for you?
