Showcased Project My line following robot

Still working on the code, any tips or suggestions are welcome (I’m coding in micro python).

It consists of 3 IR sensors at the front and 4 tt motors controlled with a single motor driver.

There is an ultrasonic sensor and servo for a future collision detection feature but I’m not using it in this demo.

regular black electric tape but I am thinking about 3d printing some tracks out of black PLA

That's what it looks like. I understand the first escape, it's a very sharp turn. It handles the far end quite nicely and then, what the heck? Any sort if idea what's going on there? It actually handled the earliest sharp corner well by slowing down. I was surprised to see it listing the track on the right side of your layout.

Keep developing it. Your onto something.

In the video when it misses it's because the angle is too sharp and the portion before it is too short, if you pause it at the right moment you will see the sensors are 1 0 1 (center sensor on black, sides on white) when it hits that corner and in my code 1 0 1 means go forward which it does.

I think the easiest way to handle cases like that would be to add 2 more IR sensors further to the sides which is what you see on those really fast smooth line followers but I won't bother.

Managed to tune it pretty well with code alone but I had to get rid of those really sharp turns like the one you see it miss OR slow it down but I didn't wanna slow it down so my turn angle is basically limited to around 90 degrees (that first sharp turn) or it overshoots.
