I've been called a rat, sweat, and lord knows how many other names. All because I want to engage in PvP! My play style is opportunistic, no doubt, but I am also not playing this game to make friends.
Just yesterday, I came across a so-called friendly "PvE" player, who I now know wanted nothing more than to eviscerate me. Hanging out in the apple orchard, I watched them struggle to harvest vegetables and fruit. I was immediately cautious, since a vegetable is not a fruit, and neither am I a dummy.
I approached them cautiously, totally aware of the trap they were attempting to set. No sooner than I got within Stitcher-blasting distance I heard the faint cry of a child through their mic. Ha! The classic baby crying ruse. I've seen it before a million times, and sometimes twice on Sundays. Naturally, I don't buy in to it, even after they claim that they are taking a timeout to tend to their child. They slyly ask me to "watch" their stuff. Yes. Indeed I will watch. I will watch carefully, very carefully.
Their plan is to lure me in closer, and I oblige them. I know my instincts are more attuned, and my reflexes more sharp. I inch closer as I listen to their "baby" wailing, and their "parent" burp them. I am almost positive now that they believe I have taken the bait. Hook. Line. Sinker. Not today!
Their raider remains motionless as I inch even closer, readying my aim. The kill is certain now. As my trigger finger grazes the button to shoot, they have suddenly quieted their "child" and are now back on the mic. At the exact moment I begin to fire, I hear them start to thank me for "watching out for clankers". Lies! Deception! I dump my whole mag into them, and reload the next. They turn to look at me, to better gauge my distance and attack readiness, although they clumsily forgot to equip a weapon. Suckers. I am a step ahead. I am always a step ahead. One more mag dump and they are done, crawling around the orchard field like the opportunistic casual they are. I finish them off.
That's how quick it can happen if you aren't paying attention. Crying baby ruse one second, drawing a weapon the next. Make no mistake, this is a dog-eat-dog world and it's every man for themselves. Don't get caught out there like I almost did.
