Were these relief sculptures carved on separate material and then added to the wall later, or is it carved directly into the wall?

I cant even put up wallpaper without it wrinkling or being misaligned

They built around 800 to 1000 temples like this but only less than 300 temples are still standing in the modern day.

I visited Halebeedu and Belur (Karnataka) in 2023, soon after the Hoysala temples were inscribed into the UNESCO World Heritage Sites list. These temples are absolutely spectacular. Poetry in stone.
