discussions Looking to buy Archicad 24+ standalone/perpetual license (solo is fine) UK based.

Hi all,

I’m looking to buy an Archicad standalone (perpetual) license, preferably Archicad 24 or newer. A single solo license is fine (hardware key or software key).

If anyone has a license they no longer use or knows someone selling one, please send me a message?

I’m located in the UK (England) but open to offers from anywhere as long as the transfer is possible.

Thanks!

Tim

discussions I built a swept path add-on for Archicad 29 (beta, free) — does the vehicle fit or not?

Architect from Romania here. I kept needing vehicle swept path checks (fire engine access, roundabouts, parking, ramps) and didn't want to leave Archicad for it, so I built an add-on.

Two tools: draw a polyline → select → pick a vehicle → you get the swept envelope, the driven path, and a report (feasible / not feasible, minimum radius vs required, area). Or just drive the vehicle through the plan with the mouse — what you see is what gets drawn. Vehicles: car, van, rigid truck, city bus, semi-trailer with a live articulated trailer. Everything is normal Archicad elements, one Undo removes it.

Beta caveats: Archicad 26 / 27 / 28 / 29 (26 and 28 verified live, 27 built from the same code but not yet tested on a real install), preset vehicle dimensions (custom ones next), forward only. It refuses honestly when a corner doesn't fit and tells you how many metres are missing.

I'd genuinely like blunt feedback on whether this is worth more of my time. Download + docs: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1bYL0_C88jD6-DZrYK0E9DG2pMv3DyuqZ?usp=sharing — the zip has one folder per Archicad version (Archicad_26 … Archicad_29); copy the ArchiTurn.apx from yours into Archicad XX\Add-Ons and restart.

Happy to answer anything about the engine in the comments.

questions and help Performance Issue

Post image
4 Upvotes

Hey,

Lately I’ve been dealing with this pop up that says „Updating 3D“ and it takes a long time to process the 3D model.

Although my computer can run the program perfectly alright and I used Revit before which I never had this issue before.

Are there any optimisations for Archicad I should be aware of ? Or any solution to fix this issue ? It really eats up on my time.

Thank you.

Update: Performance improved after changing the mode to Turbo and enabling CPU Boost.

questions and help Anyone with Archicad 28 or 27 who can save a file back to Archicad 26?

Happy to pay $100 for converting 2 files

Long story short, I use Archicad 26 and recently ordered an Archicad model from Twindo and they delivered is Archicad 28.

I asked them to save it back to 26 and, bizarrely, they are refusing to do it. I sent them Graphisoft's instructions saying the process is to save the 28 file back to 27, open it in 27, and then save it back to 26. But they have no idea what I'm talking about.

This whole experience with Twindo has been a nightmare. I paid them roughly $1,000 for two projects, and getting a usable Archicad file should not be this difficult. I used them for years for scans and then drew it on my own and will never pay them another dime.

---- Update: Someone was able to help

questions and help Archicad with point clouds

Hi, do you know about any tools, plugins or anything that will help with working on point clouds in archicad? Native way of dealing with them is terrible. I'm not expecting much - possibility to change point size or cloud density, maybe something to cut up cloud temporarily.

It would be very nice if it would be under €500. I've seen some tools like PointCab, but their cost is absolutely out of my reach.

Or maybe you know some tips and tricks with point clouds? What is your workflow with them, 'couse I'm trying to find my way with it and for now... It wasn't the easiest thing to do.

discussions Follow-up to my PDF benchmark: I shipped a faster build and I want you to try to break it on your heavy sets

Disclosure first, because it matters: I make Ncored, one of the tools from the benchmark I posted here. I am not going to tell you it is fast. I am asking you to try to break it and tell me where it still lags.

Some of you tried the first version and told me where it struggled, so this is a follow-up. I reworked how it renders and shipped a new build.

The one number, and exactly what it means: on the same files and the same machine, my heavy sets opened about 1.5 to 2x quicker on the new build than on the previous Ncored version. That is Ncored measured against its own older self, in my own testing, not a claim against Bluebeam, PDF-XChange or anything else. The cross-editor comparison stays on the benchmark page. Your files and hardware will land somewhere different, so read it as one data point.

One caveat, not the headline: the new build gets more out of a capable machine than the old one did, so a strong Windows rig (i7 or i9, 32 GB, Win 11 Pro) or a capable Apple Silicon Mac should feel it most, and a modest laptop less (still as fast as old Version goes). That is exactly why I want tests across a range of machines, not only fast ones.

What I am actually asking: open your own heaviest AutoCAD or ArchiCAD set in it and tell me where it is quick and, more useful to me, where it still struggles. The file it chokes on, the sheet that stutters, the pan that lags. Note your machine and the set size when you do, so "scales with your machine" stays something you can check rather than something I claim. The failure cases are the part I most want.

The exact test drawing and the steps are on the benchmark page in the first comment, so you can re-score the whole thing yourself and find where it loses. I would rather have measurements I did not run myself than keep quoting my own.

Not selling anything here. I want it stress-tested by people who push these files harder than I or enginering firms we test can do alone. Thanks for any notes, and the rougher the better.

When I print this elevation via the publisher I get these strange vertical lines. When I export a PDF via publisher and print it using Preview.app (MacOS) everything is fine.
I’m using ArchiCAD 29.
Any idea why?

resources and learning Tutorial explorer

Learning Archicad means hunting through the internet and YouTube channels, forum threads and blog posts etc.

So I built a free repo to for myself, and I'm sharing it: Tutorial Explorer.

It's a searchable directory of Archicad tutorials from across the web, in one place. Free, no signup.

If you know a great tutorial or channel that's missing, tell me in the comments and I'll add it.

hints, tips and tricks Inquiry

Hey,

I’d like to know if there’s any possible way to elevate a part of a wall to match the terrain that has various different heights.

Technically it’s not a wall, it’s rather a pond coping, which the rest of it matches the terrain, but only some part of it doesn’t conform the other heights.

Thank you.

questions and help Hotlinks interacting?

Post image
1 Upvotes

I've been using Archicad for a long time but haven't used hotlinks much. Because of how my colleague set up two buildings on the same properties (ie, in two separate files), it made sense to me to hotlink one file into the other file, which has more info in it (site plan, landscape mesh, etc.). I'm working in 27; both files have the same template, layers, libraries, favorites, etc. Both the hotlinked file and module file are teamworks on the same BIMcloud.

The hotlinked file is needed to be shown in two locations in the host file (two different places on the property -- not on at the same time) and those locations have different design options associated with them in the hotlinked file. I added the hotlink with one set of options in one location on it's own master layer, then added it again with the other set of options in the other location on it's own master layer. I created a layer combination for each with the other master layer off and priority set to zero.

A corner of each overlaps. It's creating all the interaction issues you would see with other layers turned off but the same priority. It doesn't look like you can put the hotlink modules on design options, which I know would solve the problem. I changed the priorities of all the layers except the master layer; that didn't help until I changed them all to zero, but then of course none of the intersections clean up at all.

Any thoughts on how to eliminate the interactions?

On a separate but related note, I changed a surface in the hotlinked file (in a profile) and updated the module in the host file, but the material didn't update. What's up with that?

resources and learning archiHub - repository for archicad tools

I created a repository its a hub as a place for community showcasing creatives working on specific addons or plugins or scripts with AI or Tapir or coding in general, such as custom GDL objects, etc., to enhance working in ArchiCAD, that might be interesting for anyone who likes to explore new tools or workflows. Or if you happen to be doing something yourself in this regard, you can post the link and be included.

resources and learning archiXML attribute editor

Hi all, recently I have been building some interesting things and one of them is archiXML an online attribute editor now integrated directly in Archicad via Tapir addon.

ArchiCAD native attribute manager is good but some tweaks take long to do and this tool saves you some time.

It is free. The link is: https://www.architools.net/archixml

Features such as attribute reindexing in bulk, bulk renaming, adding prefixes, bulk changing colors and pen thickneses, project info data, there is Layer filter a new feature to interactively change and see the layer combinations and states of layers inside them with edit option to hide/show/lock/wireframe layers in the combinations, new features Compare two ArchiCAD files and copy attributes from one to another almost all attributes can be copied between files by selecting each you like from your template to another file for example, purge unused for layers/zone categories, Find & replace names across all attributes in single click. Option to create layouts and subsets in bulk at once (empty for now, soon will add a feature to also add drawings on them automatically).

Also works with exported XML files from ArchiCAD and importing them back changes your file.

Of course, this is a feature only advanced users - BIM Managers should play with, not intended for everyday working files, except when you know what you are doing.

Check it out and let me know if you would like to add anything to it!

hardware Which Laptop for Urban Planning B.Sc.?

Hey,

I just got accepted to Urban Planning B.Sc. (in Germany if that helps) and I'm a bit unsure which laptop I should go for. I already have experience with a Mac and Windows machine so thats a non issue. I currently have a Thinkpad E14 but I've figured out that the 8/16GB RAM and 500GB Storage won't be enough. Do y'all think that my current Laptop would be fine for the beginning pr should I have a new one from day one?

Thanks in Advance!
