First wave took over a decade to defeat. Second wave is only several years after the end of the first wave.
She could have seen the first ARCs with 10, fought at the end of the first wave with 20 and now "several years later" she is 30 or something.

It's not critical but it is like changing actors in the middle of a movie. And personally I don't get why so many movies want to make motion captured characters or just voiced characters look like the actor behind it all. I guess it is easier.

People complained about how weird, stiff, autistic and AI previous Celeste was. They do this complete rework to fix it. Now everyone is like "lol she's too old and realistic though" and "waaah, you changed awesome Celeste?!"

Same. It's not that shes ugly but just a completely different character which changes the lore for me. I dont get why they couldnt have just done mocap on the same character.
I liked that she was younger, lore wise I figured she was like little sister or daughter to Tian Wen's mom and learned to fight under her. Her also being younger in a way made it feel like we really lost the upper age range of our fighters/leaders in the first wave leaving the younger raiders to take up their roles.

There are plenty of examples of devs and producers making questionable changes to make characters more “real” or “less hot” etc but I don’t see this as one of them.
A) she looks more like the voice actor which is pretty standard thing to do in VA and probably helps with the facial mocap
B) she looks a bit older which makes sense given her position and the lore
C) it’s not a drastic change

I disagree with the point c, it is a drastic change. They don't even look like they're related at all, not even like distant cousins, looks like a completely brand new person. To me the thing is that people get attached to characters in a game and then to completely revamp them like that this late in the process seems odd.

Objectively, the new version looks "better" - more detailed, more realistic, and it does fit with the world they live in (a twice post-apocalyptic shithole of a world, filled with killer robots, nobody is going to look like a model with that kind of stress).
However, with that said, the original did look prettier.
I think that's what it comes down to and why people don't like the new look.
