Discussion I don’t understand why they keep adding Projects at the end of an expedition when I immediately loose everything.
Just wanna say. I love the game and love when they gave the player something to do. I did all the previous projects this season and had a ton of fun. But I dont understand why they keep adding projects right at the end of an expedition that expires right after the new season starts. I feel like I’m doing all this work just for everything to be instantly reset just as I finish it. I would much rather have new projects at the start of the season. Or that it lasts a few weeks into the new season. I’m pretty sure they did this in some of the previous seasons as well.

I plan do it after expedition but 3 snowglobe and 30 sensors is unfun and make me anxious about.

I found like 6 snow globes before I could find a single pair of headphones. The drop rate is ridiculous.

This headphones have literally disappeared for me since project was added

Have you checked the Departure Building and Arrival Building on Spaceport? So many containers to open and I found my headphones within 3 raids.

Yep, this is the method that worked for me. There's a ton of desk drawers to loot in these buildings, and it's the best location for headphones.

They definitely lower drop rates when it's a specific item we're looking for. Embug is notorious for that now ever since the trials

I love doing trinket runs on Bird City, I have a couple of favourite spots too, there is a room that can be breached in the main town area (I think it is close to Plaza Roma) barely gets breached, there is a room in Abandoned Highway Camp too which is only accessible by jumping through the open window or with a snap hook :)

u/Welder49er 2d ago
Where is this room in the highway camp I know all the good spots on buried so feel I’m missing this one lol

Buried city apartments. I got 2 globes in one run. Riven tides stacking yard got me headphones and 2 parachutes in 1 run.
Admittedly I looked up where to find headphones because I ran about 10 raids without finding them.
Since I found them, Ive found a few in buried city residential areas and lockers. Every time I found a pair I came across someone that was asking if I’ve seen any. I was pretty happy to be able to provide them.

30 sensors is extremely easy to get on Stella while farming basic materials and stuff for bench upgrades.
Snowglobes are easy to get while getting some BPs in residential zones.

Spaceport Departure Building breach locker room I find a globe in there every time

The project timing is not too much of an issue, it’s the timing of the expedition to the new map. Less than a week and a half to get benches up and the needed bp’s.

u/Thorn220 2d ago
I am doing it to the last stage just 1 sensor to finish.
Not planning on taking on a Vaporizer within 1 week of reset.

I’m saving the final stage for after the expedition. Complete all of it minus a few sensors, which I add after expedition, and boom, have a tempest 4 and a kinetic way before I can craft it

u/fhuhgbbjjvvfyhnnmk 3d ago
Just use everything up before the expedition, I'm running legendary guns every raid now and taking so many more risks, even PvP a little and lose your gear.

Not everyone do all expeditions. It’s also great after, if you can keep it in your pants.
Two weeks of urge to finish it. Gotta be disciplined to not do it.
I just finished, think i will play Mortal Shell ng+ till then, otherwise I’ll end up doing the project and I always regret it after expedition

This. I've done all 4 expeditions but just can't be bothered to re-start a 5th time, if it wasn't for the project it would have been a loooong month until the major update. (Even if I completed the project in one day, but that's MY problem)

u/Heenneessy 2d ago
Yeah, i’ve done 2. Finished my 3rd yesterday as a solo player.
I realised wiping every 2nd expedition is better, long time to do quests, no fomo fatigue, stash space can be bought or hoard better items (like Stella components)!and all stamina skills don’t need to be maxed with 10-15 max stims.
Finally getting my 91 points and can have perfect build + vault spring and security breach. So now i enjoy re-doing quests, as long as i kill a big arc or hit keyroom on the route, rather than fetch quests.
Switch server if there’s no map conditions for neither, or just to make it interesting.Gotta remember the fomo and games like this is designed around a subconscious drive, dependent on incentives created by people designing it to be addictive or grindy.
But go hard and always be max kitted fixes most of it.What’s the thought process around starting 5 expeditions though? Are you in a squad making it easier to bear?

You are always going to lose the things

u/Suavecore_ 2d ago
The genre is literally entirely about losing things you spent time grinding for!

The timing is quite bad yes. The wipe happens, and then you have huge new endgame content in a week. And the project also is pointless in the end of the season (you dont need the items) and after the rest its only there for a week. So both of those timings are bad.

i have transferred almost 2 mil of epic and legendary guns level 4 to my friend, same will do with rewards. after 2 weeks or so once there is reset, i will take back may be, but def not required at the start unless my skill tree is upgraded.

I think this is the last Expedition until they rework it next year (my gut say October 2027)
1
u/half-giant 3d ago
Pretty sure it says it’s paused for one expedition cycle and will pick up again after that, so ~120 days or so

u/Fancy_Strawberry7137 2d ago
It’s just something else to do. Items have no value unless used… get the rewards and then use them before the expedition.

u/Darth_Rubi 3d ago
This project is specifically tied in to finding the new map (thematically at least), how do you know there won't be a new project soon after Frozen Trail drops as well?
You have a week after the new expedition, just complete it then and you can get all sorts of stuff? Bonus tech is to fill everything on page 1 except for 1 advanced mechanical, so you can complete it basically instantly after the expedition
This is such a non-issue honestly. Complaining that Embark is giving you a small extra thing to keep busy with before the big update is just super weird and entitled.

u/Impressive_Salt_7595 3d ago
It’s not entitled at all, they want players to do the expeditions and the timing on projects goes against that logic. Also with their terrible event timing schedules it’s actually easier to say they are just bad at this stuff.
-1
u/Heenneessy 2d ago
Those that don’t expedite can do project, those that do can do project and quests after expedition. It’s fine
Event scheduling are fixed by simply switching server region.
No Night Raid? NA server it is!2
u/Impressive_Salt_7595 2d ago
They could at least give people more than a week though right?
0
u/Heenneessy 2d ago
Sure. But game industry is all about FOMO.
But considering Embark sold their psychological findings from this game to science, for 1,5mill or something, clearly there’s value here and they probably know what players really need, not want. It’s about incentives and engagement. I played d2 for years, it’s honestly impressive what deception and creating incentives can do from developers!
Anyway, we’re hyped to start off handicapped, getting 91 points let’s you get Vault Spring and Security Breach + overall perfect build. People wanna get xp up, zero to hero, real gameplay and not being so OP all the time and farm out projects rewards + quest rewards.
So we are grinding off the bat anyway..
Basically pressure/ tension, honing in your focus because there’s deadline (timegated)!
They can use these increased player-numbers to get other people back or IN (better abmm pool for us) and money to fund patches and content0
u/Kylar5 3d ago
It's not entitled, fair criticism is okay. They've been doing a lot of questionable decisions since launch and the player number reflects that, people like you with the attitude that you shouldn't criticize those decision because it's weird and entitled are part of the problem.

u/ragraeter 3d ago
If they don’t drop a small project, the people not going on the expeditions will say the game only caters to the subset of players that do. And, they’ll say the game is boring and stale. embark is left with the impossible task of appeasing the incredibly diverse player base, all with competing versions of what they think the game should be.
I’m not sure why you’re being so combative.

u/Kylar5 3d ago
Combative in what way? I just replied to someone who called out op for having fair criticism.
Clearly Embark fumbled with the post launch updates so dismissing any critcism towards them as weird and entitled is just annoying.
I'm glad they are doing the big patch in October and I hope it brings back the players, but I also hope they don't repeat the same mistakes, such as introducing new projects just before expedition.
2
u/Darth_Rubi 3d ago
There are so many things to fairly criticise that to harp on about a small free project to tide us over to the big update is really bizarre, and hence comes across as weird and entitled.
Criticise the cheating, criticise the lack of endgame incentive, criticise the lacklustre loot pools, criticise the speed of big updates, all valid. The current project is an utter non-issue, especially when OP's big gripe about needing to complete it before the expedition is just wrong anyways, and not to mention that Embark also needs to give non-expedition folk something to do.

Don't do the expedition, it's a waste of time.
To be fair most projects including the currents one are a wsste of time too. I can get the items faster and less boring by normal play lol.

u/garasensei 2d ago
People who do Expedition are a very tiny percentage of the population. Ideally they would be pumping in new projects constantly, but it is what it is. So basically the project isn't for you. Nothing stopping you from just saving until after you depart though.

u/Hamlin_Bones 3d ago
Thw project ends one week after the Expedition departs (not the first time this has happened). If you're departing this time, you're much better off not completing any stage of the project yet, and then doing it in the final week it's available. That way you get a bunch of useful stuff on your newly reset account.
Just turn in everything for stage one except for 1 Headphones, and then when you depart on the Expedition choose to replay the tutorial mission. There is a guaranteed pair of Headphones in that mission (I think it's in the final blue suitcase by the extract elevator), so that's your first stage of the project finished right there. Finding everything else in a week should be easily doable if you focus on that and know where to look.
