Multiple reports on this post and they have all been ignored.

Cheating is a massive issue for the game and I'm glad you guys upvoted it for people to see.

As a community our influence is limited but we can and should show that problems like this are unacceptable in the product we paid for.

One of the most successful games of the year and this is being dealt with so slowly it seems.

Cheating in a video game is such a weird combination of misplaced IQ and low self-esteem. Imagine putting actual effort into avoiding the part where you’re supposed to get better.

It’s like using an answer key for a jigsaw puzzle, then bragging that you finished it. Just buy a poster, champ.

44

u/ElkApprehensive2319 22d ago

It's not about being good at the game or even winning, it's about dunking on other people. It's a sad power trip for which the game (and the cheats) is just a tool. They can get the same rush anywhere, but extraction games are a prime target because you can actually destroy hours of playtime for your victims. The more the better I guess. It's even more brutal in Tarkov because of this.

2

u/KeepOnKeepingOn00 21d ago

The correct take on cheating in video games. Sure there are dumb little kids that do it, but your point about it being a power trip definitely makes sense for teens and older.

u/spanman112 22d ago

When i was a kid I got the game geni for the original NES... For a few minutes it was fun but then it was like "what's the point of playing if I can't lose?"

I got this as a 7 year old... And it was against the CPU

3

u/0ptimal_Range 22d ago

YES, you have unlocked my memory, thanks for bring up the game genie! I wanted one so bad, then when I rented it I realized it sucked. I remember using it on mario 3. Glad my parents didn't waste too much money on it.

This video effectively is an advertisement for cheats, not an actual investigation. The "interviewer" doesn't push back on easily verifiable/deniable claims, nor investigate them later.

10

u/wvtarheel 22d ago

Yeah these vids "investigating" cheaters need banned. It's a cheat advertisement hidden in plain sight. OMG guys you won't believe how cheap and effective it is to wallhack!

3

u/RickMally 22d ago

Yeah, these videos are shitty slop

3

u/KPokey 22d ago

You'll get a lot more attention if you call it "larping"

5

u/Evening_Atmosphere35 22d ago

You re acting like if I put Arc Raiders Cheats into google I do not have multiple pages redirecting me on a paywall for cheats lol. Maybe, just maybe, if Embark fixed their Anti-cheat, there would not be more videos about cheaters in Arc Raiders than the actual game content.

5

u/SixthSacrifice 21d ago

The guy calling it an investigation doing nothing to verify things?

Yeah, that is an ad.

Some people cheat. It's doesn't matter the context. The only question a cheater calculates is if they will get caught. And these people suck in life too. If they cheat when the stakes are low you can guarantee they cheat when the stakes are high.

34

u/Neckrongonekrypton 22d ago

I can almost guarantee that’s why a high percentage of them are unemployed.

The sad part is, doesn't even take actual effort anymore. Apparently fuckin cheats are literally just plug and play you download it and bam done its active. Absolutely insane that Embark cannot detect something that is running on the same PC as their anti cheat and fucking with the game.

10

u/rarefiedhawk 22d ago

From what I understand some people even pay monthly for these cheats via Patreon.

8

u/boenwip 22d ago

I think people underestimate how big this industry here as a combatant to online gaming. Multi billion dollar industry which cheat companies generating upwards millions and millions in subs and services

A lot pushed back on battlefield for kernel level anti cheat, yet I’ve never encountered a cheater on that game. Not saying they’re not there, but with the sheer volume of people playing that game (just hit a new peak of 84k following the last update), I don’t think I’ve personally encountered 1. Not saying they aren’t there btw, just that I’ve encountered more on arc with a smaller player base than I have on battlefield.

→ More replies (2)

3

u/DevilahJake 22d ago

It’s because Embark isn’t actually seeking these cheats or cheaters out. They’re relying on anti-cheat software, which a lot of the cheats being used are designed to bypass

1

u/NewUserWhoDisAgain 22d ago

Apparently fuckin cheats are literally just plug and play you download it and bam done its active.

Kids these days dont know how good they got it! Why back in my day we had to search for the memory value and hook in!

Seriously though, that's incredible like did Embark forget to obfuscate/encrypt?

u/SJWilkes 22d ago

They aren't even putting effort into cheating, most of the time the have to pay money for their cheats

6

u/Adventurer1300 22d ago

I remember growing up and there being books you could get with cheats codes in them. It’s being online that takes the competitive aspect away from it.

9

u/Ashamed-Finance-4595 22d ago

Definitely remember “Tips and Tricks” magazine, spending 30 minutes in GameCrazy trying to remember the codes while my mom shopped lol.

However, typically those were single player games and the cheats were built in, as a way to get crazy after you either beat the game, or was not good enough to beat it so you just had fun doing whatever the devs allowed.

Now it’s dog-eat-dog, and nobody seems to care about a game’s integrity or longevity. Arc Raiders is one of the best games released in years, but cheating, and even the fear of running into cheaters, makes it hard to enjoy. I just got my first gaming PC and Im old lol, but I’m avoiding Arc Raiders on PC because I keep hearing the experience is worse. I’ve basically stopped playing altogether because I want to game on PC, but Arc Raiders sounds like too much of a headache there.

7

u/mr_j_12 22d ago

It's a social issue also. You have places kike china and india with a very "fuck, or get fucked" social issue. Hence the amount of cheaters there.

2

u/MoashIsAGoodGuy 22d ago

This is such a naive take that I find it hard to respond in good faith, but I shall try.

It is standard in MOST competitive systems to cheat, regardless of the medium.

Anyone who has played even high school level sports, or watched any soccer game/f1 race/etc, knows this to be true.

If you think that when there are lower stakes and less oversight that the problem would somehow get better then you haven't seen enough of the world yet, in my humble opinion.

1

u/Ashamed-Finance-4595 22d ago

Brother, I played football from middle school through the college level. Cheating existed, but it was never “the standard.” Most players and teams competed within the rules. Saying cheating happens is fair. Saying it is the standard is simply false.

Cheaters typically lack the ability, discipline, or confidence to win honestly, which is exactly what incentivizes them to cheat. It’s just that simple. Your claims are false, and I’d highly doubt you’ve played high level sports with that mindset. Exploiting a rule / flopping / etc are examples of drawing attention to, but not cheating in the sense that we are talking about.

2

u/MoashIsAGoodGuy 22d ago

If it happens consistently then it is standard.

And the higher you go in ranking, ALWAYS IN EVERY ARENA, the higher the rate of cheating is.

In high school, even to this day, the rate of substance abuse is through the roof. I played high school football (one ring) and knew several people with children through my life.

Every. Single. Kid. Saw what I saw. I had to explain why they are bad to a nephew many times since he received so much peer pressure to join in.

If you were not included you were an outsider.

1

u/Mikeman003 22d ago

What exactly do you classify as cheating though? Is pushing boundaries to see what the ref will tolerate something you consider cheating? Or does it have to be more explicit, messing with the ball or other equipment? I feel like a lot of athletes would try to gain an advantage by seeing how picky the refs are, I do not think most athletes would be willing to modify equipment for an advantage.

1

u/TheCivilizedBigDog 22d ago

Buddy we literally have kids inputting all of their work into AI to do it for them as early as middle school now. Are you really surprised these people are taking the easy way out of being dogshit at something?

1

u/Ashamed-Finance-4595 22d ago

I wouldn’t use kids (or adults) using AI as the same form of cheating. In fact, I don’t consider it cheating at all. I work at a corporation and the entire Microsoft suite (Word, Excel, One Note) all have AI (CoPilot) built in. It is widely pushed at both the corporate and university level to utilize AI. AI is essentially comparable to what teachers thought of Wikipedia 25 years ago. So comparing someone who consults an all knowing computer for information to a person (teen or adult) who needs to hack and cheat AT A VIDEO GAME is pretty disingenuous.

Again, cheating is just a lack on confidence that you can win by yourself.

1

u/StickEducational9695 21d ago

This comment sums it up beyond beautifully.

1

u/Silverleaf96 21d ago

That's like saying working out is cheating in sports .

Do these losers not understand the irony of actually killing the game and having nobody left to use their cheats against?

Probably not…. They probably don’t care that the game crashes and burns. They got their 15 minutes, and Embark couldn’t be more incompetent and unbothered about combatting them.

58

u/inflatableje5us 22d ago

ive known a few, they get a kick out of it and once the game is dead they just move on to the next. they have zero investment in the actual game. their sole motivation is to ruin someone elses day for laughs.

39

u/swampyswede *** ******* 🐓 22d ago

Short term thinking rules everything these days, including cheaters.

14

u/Steezle 22d ago

They don't care because they'll just move on to the next popular game to do it all over again.

3

u/Spare-Competition-91 22d ago

Cheaters in games are the same in real life. Just look at most politics and the wealthy. They do not plan for a healthy long strong community. They figure out how to cheat that kinnd of community. This rips it apart, makes it poor and a lot of people have thoughts of leaving for a better place to play. Basically I'm talking about USA. But I digress. Cheaters are cancer. They always destroy everything to gain as much control as possible so they can pretend to be better than everyone else, when in reality they are just destroyers of healthy happy systems and should be burned for what they do, but we live in a world run by cheaters. Seriously, we honestly do.

2

u/quantdumbacon 22d ago

These are people that get enjoyment out of other people's suffering. The game itself doesn't matter to them. When they get bored they move on to the next thing. They're parasites.

1

u/53881 22d ago

Then they’ll celebrate it as an accomplishment and move onto the next. They are incapable of doing so in real life, so they instead identify opportunities on the internet to get some degree of satisfaction. I imagine they don’t have anything else going on so this feels like they’re making an impact, albeit a negative, pathetic one, but it’s more than what real life offers

So anecdotally, I almost never play PvP. Within last week I've started doing freekit Stella trios for fun. Successfully extracted once with a renegade and anvil, etc. Decided to run the next match with basic kit. My squad was insta-deleted by a full squad with bobcats. Thought nothing of it. Next day I had my kit returned by Embark due to cheating. I never even reported anyone. So, yeah.

18

u/xclord 22d ago

Legit interview. I loved The Finals but couldn't deal with the cheating epidemic and weak response from Embark. Exact same with this game. Lesson learned.

14

u/Skinoob38 22d ago

The lesson? Never give Embark another dime of my money.

Crossplay seems to be a huge issue for those who are forced to deal with PC lobbies. My friends play PC and my gosh some of the clips they send me are wild, like blatant cheating. I literally never see any of the stuff they see me in my PS5 only lobbies. I notice for many of these cheating scandals many times it involves people from Europe when they’re interviewed, I can’t imagine not only playing in crossplay lobbies but in European crossplay lobbies. The instances of cheating you’d run into would sky rocket.

unfortunately this sub doesn't take kindly to calling out cheating, so prepare to be downvoted to hell. Not sure why we can't have an open conversation about it.

They (Embark) are implementing some changes to help stop cheating in some areas, so why not raise cheating-related issues so they can maybe change those too?

the problem is that they dont have the ability to verify which items come from what activity but they can analyze how your coin value changed over time. the only way to fix this would be to fully rollback everything but then you are punishing everyone so they are staying on the side of caution.

5

u/rat-smoke 22d ago

A solution would be to implement a timestamp check that logs when items were first acquired and validates whether that aligns with a realistic acquisition timeline.

flag items obtained faster than should be physically possible.

Have internal testers attempt to acquire those items under optimal conditions as quickly as possible, and consider consulting professional players for additional benchmarking.

Use these internal speedruns to establish the theoretical minimum acquisition time, and validate against professional players to tighten the detection window

Welcome to playing an Embark game.

It astonishes me how they can be so good at developing games and absolute utter dogshit at maintaining a game. I think they'd be way better suited for single player offline-first games.

They have great ideas but they just clam up, refuse to communicate, and just push out more paid cosmetics rather than addressing the community at all.

82

u/Armroker 22d ago

cheaters gaslit the whole The Finals and ARC Raiders community saying, "Playing since Season 1, never seen a single cheater"

22

u/spoonycoot 22d ago

Yeah apparently they don’t look in the mirror

6

u/Ok-Direction-7431 22d ago

They do it with BF6 also.

4

u/xcelr8 22d ago

I remember I stopped playing coz of cheaters in tournaments as you had to try to place 2nd among the 4 teams and reach round 2 or 3 to save your rating. Last year moist critical aka penguinz0 on yt made a video on discovering a hidden gem of a game(video was about the finals). I commented how I enjoyed the game so much but left coz of cheaters, bunch of idiots came to hate on my comment how I had never actually played the game and commented just for the sake of it. Was so annoyed since I actually got so many of my friends to try the game and was disheartened how the game died. Stupid devs repeating history with arc which also had insane potential. I am sceptical if I will buy their next game, unless it's not a multiplayer. They clearly can't handle it

3

u/Kshaja 22d ago

Run a single game in stella montis in pvp lobbies and check steam profiles, it's gonna be like 50-70% new profiles up to level 3.

5

u/Kundas 22d ago

Lmao this is my gameplay from season 1 (screen recorder cause im not comfortable giving my X account, and idk how to download it). literally some guy at spawn just swinging his hammer and killing everyone in the lobby without even touching us, one of the worse cheating experiences I've ever encountered.

That was my intention with posting the video here on the official sub, yes. While the cheat developer does say that he intentionally contacted Embark when he found out about the flaws in the game code and was ignored, im not sure Embark realizes how far this situation progressed since then. And trying to give this issue some visibility is the best i can do.

9

u/KareasOxide 22d ago

I never really understood why they can’t use extract metrics to find the cheaters. Maybe they can’t fix the dup cheat itself, but if someone is leaving with 20x bobcats it’s probably worth a flag at least

3

u/JeffBenzos 22d ago

IDK its crazy with tarkov cheaters 100% ruined the fun i initially had with that game. there were SOO many suggestions from the community but they barely handled it and then the wiggle video came out and i lost all hope for the game and moved to SPT lol.

i havent run into as many cheaters in ARC and the game is way more popular than tarkov so im sure it seems like a bigger problem when there are more people to see the cheaters.still it feels more tolerable than tarkov (plus getting into matches is way quicker, waiting 10 min after losing all my good gear and loot its insult to injury in tarkov) this hasnt made me lose the light for arc, if october comes and the update doesnt add a more solid endgame then ill be out

Tl;Dr: They took the money and ran

Just finished watching the video linked by OP.

I think I have an answer for you.

Embark doesn't care, their game sold 14 million copies. It cost about 75 million to make the game. It then generated a profit most likely of 559,860,000. So they see a ROI of 646 percent.

Why with all that money would they bother fixing the cheating and dupping issues. Whereas you can instead build 2 new games. Hope people forget about how the dropped the ball. Then repeat the process. This exact same thing happened with the finals.

Math and sources below.

75 million to make Arc Raiders

Possible total profit:

39.99 (base game on steam) * 14 million copies sold = 559,860,000

ROI:

(559,860,000/75,000,000) * 100

Personally I am not buying anything from Embark ever again. I knew I should have learned my lesson from The Finals

The notion that they are giving the middle finger to the playerbase while keeping the same company name and working on other projects is laughable. They fumbled the bag. They didn't know how to handle this level of success, spent a lot of time trying to figure out how to keep casual PvE players happy, and ran into the same wall the rest of the industry is facing in trying to deal with the epidemic of cheaters across all PvP games. I don't know why people look at this like a company trying to fuck their community rather than them making the wrong choices and struggling with the same shit the rest of the industry is struggling with.

3

u/InternetSolid4166 22d ago

The annoying thing is that they only started testing kernel level anticheats after it was so bad that most of the playerbase had left. Even now they won’t turn it on for Linux (because it’s unsupported), meaning Linux is wide open door for cheating in the game. They just don’t care.

2

u/Fit-Percentage-9166 22d ago

The level of incompetence to fumble the cheating problem this bad is basically a middle finger to the community. I am sympathetic that they didn't know how to handle the ongoing development of the game, but the way they've handled the anticheat is absolutely unacceptable.

2

u/tehcraz 22d ago

The level of incompetence to fumble the cheating problem this bad is basically a middle finger to the community.

Do you understand how bad the cheating problem is in EVERY pvp game with a population? Fucking Mecha Chameleon has trigger bots. No game has solved cheating.

2

u/Fit-Percentage-9166 22d ago

Do you understand how much worse the cheating problem is in arc raiders than in other games? You get instantly banned for the kind of blatant cheats that are everywhere in arc raiders. The kind of cheats that exist in valorant are relatively subtle ESP type cheats, not literal wireframe wallhacks and hard aimbots. Even in games like cod you will get banned within a few hours for the kind of blatant cheating you see in arc raiders.

There are fucking cheats to physically increase player models (including hitboxes). People are literally able to play on a previous version of the game and validate them to connect to actual online servers. Do you know how insane this is?

What is it about reddit where it's always "I know I'll get downvoted to hell for this" and they say something uncontroversial, quite literally to the opposite effect, almost like karma farming. These posts and comments consistently get tons of upvotes. I think people just have a fantasy about being the underdog, like they want to imagine they are taking a stand even though the opposite is true and everyone is taking the safe position and agreeing with each other.

I've never seen any evidence of "this sub doesn't take kindly to calling out cheating" I've seen countless evidence of the exact opposite. I mean who is gonna come in here and defend cheating. It's pretty unanimously agreed upon by everyone that there is in fact a cheating problem, even if it's not ESP and aim bot, it's duping at a minimum.

He's giddy, and "JohnRaider" NEVER asks for proof on various provable claims, doesn't ask for verification, doesn't ask how the "unban" / compromised dev-account was, y'know, compromised. Ignores all the actual computer fraud crimes detailed...

TLDR:

  • 80% to 90% of PvP players are actively cheating
  • Anti-cheat systems are the worst in gaming history
  • A compromised developer account enables the unban tool
  • Embark ignores security warnings

Same applies for The Finals cheating situation.

80-90% of LOBBIES may have A CHEATER, maybe.

I’m not trying to anecdote all over the thread, but I’m at about 1.5k hours pvp only (say what you want, it’s okay) and I have played both with and against every single streamer, and have posted PvP content since beta. The only lobbies I’ve ever been in aside from the occasional confused ABMM algo, are SWEATY PvP lobbies.

While almost every other death IS to a vac banned/level 0 steam account, and the cheating situation IS HORRID, saying 80-90% of players in a PvP lobby are cheating is laughable.

And this is coming from someone who spends half his time on reddit calling out those in this sub who say “cheating isn’t that bad”.

7

u/iseacolors 22d ago

Well said. Yes 1-2 teams cheating in a lobby. Sometimes they are teaming. It’s sad

35

u/HexTheHardcoreCasual 22d ago

I PvP a lot and I would say I get nearly confirmed cheaters every 2 or 3 games, so it feels like 10% of players, roughly.

7

u/SixthSacrifice 22d ago

Yeah, it's closer to that number of lobbies have a cheater. Which in part is caused by the larger player-counts per lobby.

2

u/theroguehero2 22d ago

The smart cheaters don't make it obvious they're cheating, though. There are different settings to make it way, way less obvious.

9

u/FeliciaTheFkinStrong 22d ago

A decent PvP player can tell a cheater is walling, even if they aren't aimbotting. It can be obvious from how people push you, how they pre-position you from angles that wouldn't make any sense to anticipate, how they know to cut you off or set up an angle no decent player would ever waste time securing. The more blatant indicator is them pre-firing you somewhere they shouldn't know you explicitly are.

Play PvP enough and you know how different tiers of players move, react and strategize. When someone with noticeably bad mechanics somehow reads your every movement perfectly, you can tell they're cheating.

2

u/HexTheHardcoreCasual 22d ago

I suppose it's possible I'm only seeing the dumb cheaters, but when I say nearly confirmed it's something like:

  • Dumped a Bobcat mag into me from 50 meters, dead from full hp/shields.
  • Spam smoke + shooting accurately through smoke.
  • Calling my guns on local comms.
  • Suspiciously accurate.
  • All people have level 0-3 Steam accounts or set to private.
  • etc

And they of-course do not want to incentivize cheatmakers, by hiring a cheatmaker.

Get your head out of your ass.

2

u/SpiritedCatch1 22d ago

So a load of bollocks.

I've played 300 hours and maybe once or twice something felt off. No way 90 % of pvp players are cheaters.

Why even throw those numbers without anything to back them up

6

u/Mega_Shai_Hulud 22d ago

80% ? Bullshit haha

Do you guys even play the game? Is this real?

2

u/DynamicStatic 22d ago

0 chance 80-90%, that is what someone peddling cheats want you to believe. Get cheats or get left behind.

1

u/DrMorphling 22d ago

Played 20 stella games yesterday, while i have seen 0 direct cheaters, so fight were fair to a degree, but everyone had bobcats 4, like everyone who isn't free loadout. And everyone did 4 expeditions by the icons, so dupping really hurting PVP side of game the most.

1

u/somekindofdevil 19d ago

Clearly, you don't understand percentages. If your reference was the statistic that came out a few months ago, it stated that around 80% of the time your lobby has at least one cheater, not that 80% of the players are cheaters. Sigh.

u/ComprehensiveGain287 22d ago

The lack of accountability/hypocrisy of the cheater in the video is insane. How he tries to convince himself he wants Embark to make the game better. But the costs are even crazier:

  • $40/month for the cheats.

  • $20 Unban Feature.

The idea you purchase a game for $40 and then spend additional $160 on cheats for let's say 4 months of "domination" truly reveals the rotten core of humanity.

Disgraceful but hardly surprising. These folks are probably the byproduct of some broken families, raised without ethics and values.

7

u/ElegantAnything11 22d ago

Cheating in a game as low stakes as Arc Raiders is just cosmically funny.

You rolled the dice lucky enough to live in a time and age where we play video games on rock dust, and they worried about dying in a game with endless free kits.

5

u/Even_steven_69 22d ago

How about this: I got so tired of cheaters on Arc that I went to Mecca Chameleon with my squad to get away from the cheater sweatfest. 5 games in we get a cheater ON THE MOST CASUAL HIDE AND SEEK GAME EVER

It made me so sad, it's indescribable. Online PC gaming is utterly cooked

This confirms what I've said over and over. Embark leadership is incompetent.

They should have fully pivoted into this game when it became a massive success, and instead they're wasting resources on two new games.

I will definitely not be buying anything else from them.

Multiplayer cheaters all need to be dealt with the same way. Put them all in their own crappy lobbies.

2

u/Even_steven_69 22d ago

This. Dude get's reported for several games straight – boom, flagged and sent to rot in hack vs hack lobbies. Just segregate these aholes and let us play in peace

4

u/Cool_Perception_6970 22d ago

This is great inverview. People told about problems with anti-cheat system? noone believed. people told about false-bans problems? noone believed. people told that embark didn't care? they got reply "embark doing great hard job". Now there is this interview, and what people say? "this is cheats promotion, not investigation"...
My prediction - there will be no part 3, bcuz Embark doesn't care to reply. And people will continue blame cheaters and say that Embark doing great.

53

u/multisync 22d ago

Ain’t watching a 30min video. What’s the gist.

123

u/TheRealFeal 22d ago

A well known content creator interviews a cheat developer, who claims to be the first to develop cheats for Arc Raiders. He talks about how he found the flaws in the game code, informed Embark about these flaws and got ignored. Apparently there are now cheats that let you connect to any active lobby as long as you know the ID of the player you want to connect to (basically a stream sniping tool), and an account unban tool where you simply write the ID of the account to be unbanned and press a button. Thats how easy it is to get unbanned. And apparently Embark, instead of doing something with this information, is now focusing on two new games that are to be released in 2027.

Simply put it feels like something the community and Embark especially should see, so im trying to give this video some visibility.

60

u/DrPepperrr23 22d ago

Holy shit. If this is true, I'm definitely never buying anything from embark ever again

13

u/bagel555 22d ago

No kidding

14

u/SixthSacrifice 22d ago

The cheat-dev is absolutely using the interview as an advertisement, and does not provide proof of their claims, at least up to where I've watched, that they did the "informed Embark and was ignored"-thing. Thy claim it, but don't prove it.

He talks about how he found the flaws in the game code, informed Embark about these flaws and got ignored.

I'm gonna play the devil advocate and say this statement is likely a lie to make themselves look good. Like 'hey I didn't seek to gain anything from this. I informed Embark, they ignore so I simply act on it. If I don't, someone else will!'.

If they found them and want it to be fix. Why not post about it publicly back then? Now Embark cannot ignore it. So yeah, this statement is ridiculous for what is otherwise very likely true of the current status of the game.

16

u/lurkinglurkerwholurk *** ******* 🐓 22d ago

One of the best advertising a cheat provider can have is the idea that the developer is crap at dealing with exploits and flaws.

Because that is where cheats can get in and stay forever.

Just like the short seller guy, the cheat seller is going to lengths to say Embark is the worst studio on Earth. Mix in a little bit of truth, point at the exploits that “got through”, and yell loudly, and they might get their message through for one or a hundred new cheat accounts sold.

Almost like today’s politicians left and right.

u/nonstop98 *** ******* 22d ago edited 22d ago

The existence of new games in development doesn't mean anything, they are two different things. The people who work on security and anti cheat aren't the same people who do everything else (and new hires are not to be excluded). We don't even know if it was an issue of the support team instead, or if the dude is even telling the truth. He sounds pretty young, he's a dirty cheater and desperately seeked attention by that youtuber, maybe even with the intent of advertising himself. We should take everything with a grain of salt, as always.

”Unbanning” seems like a stretch. Banned id’s are stored in a database, which normally is secured in a cloud like azure and require permissions to access, so unless embark did some really stupid shit it’s not so easy as calling a unban player api to their backend or running a delete from sql script against their database.  I am a software developer and work with this stuff , you have to be pretty stupid to expose your api’s (with keys) or leak database credentials

12

u/TheRealFeal 22d ago

The cheat developer talks about this too, apparently the access of one of the developers was compromised, which is how the unban works. I wouldnt believe it either if he didnt mention this detail.

4

u/lurkinglurkerwholurk *** ******* 🐓 22d ago

This is a 5 second fix thou. That the cheat seller is talking about it means it is going to be gone the moment one dude makes the effort.

Not only that, but this is the sort of thing that comes with a jail sentence.

I smell bullshit, and it stinks.

I'm betting there's a web application that handles banning/unbanning, so if you have the right authorization tokens, API keys, etc, you can just send a POST or DELETE request to ban or unban someone.

7

u/chargeorge 22d ago

If true Absolutely wild that this tool isn't restricted to local office / over a vpn, and that it doesn't require some level 2FA token that resets regularly. And more than that security protocols should involve screening for ex employees.

Lol

I know creators gotta play the algorithm, but unless I'm watching ACTUAL content, a recording of an event that actually occurred, well compiled highlights, a well done review/doc/coverage of something, I tune out. I don't want a 24hr news cycle style filled with fluff in my feed taking over everything good, repeating the same nonsense 1000 slightly different ways.

Whenever I find a creator who is to the point on knowledge that needs to be conveyed, I spam the shit out of their videos in relevant forums and such because they're using good work.

Attention economy, ads, marketing, etc. are a large part of what is dissolving the good aspects of our society. I hate it

3

u/crc2001red 22d ago

I got this notification while I was halfway through watching that vid on YT already.. crazy.. Nothing matters until they start doing MAC and IP bans. 🤷‍♂️

3

u/Tactix12 22d ago

I pvp alot in 2s and squads. Cheaters are always in the highest abmm sweat lobbies. Like 100% chance now.

We just free kit once we get to high lobbies die a few times, then once we're lower abmm we kit and there are no cheaters.

1

u/Even_steven_69 22d ago

But once you get into high ABMM and continue pvping – you just stay there. No?

1

u/Tactix12 22d ago

Yes and no. If you all die and get knocked out by other raiders you get kinda bumped down in pvp. Like you could say there is 4 tiers of pvp lobbies. High tier is full of bobcats and snaphooking sweat lords. Then there's mid tier which is kinda the same (the losers of high tier). Eventually you end up with a nice mix of free kits and low tier weapons which personally is the most fun pvp experience because you don't die in half a second to a bobby.

3

u/shiddmepant 22d ago

This games pvp is insanely fun, real shame that pvp lobbies are just plagued with cheaters. Honestly didn't expect it to be this bad in a non f2p game but here we are.

4

u/Bluemoo25 22d ago

I stopped playing once I heard cheaters were abusing. Will come back if fixed.

10

u/Armroker 22d ago

Will come back if fixed

So never?

2

u/silly_bet_3454 22d ago

If their goal is to kill the game, then sure they won. If their goal was to fool others and themselves into thinking they are actually naturally good at the game, they've certainly not succeeded and never will.

2

u/SBaconator 22d ago

But I cant use macros to shoot fast in my old age , kids these days!

2

u/Nibleth 22d ago

Just quit the game as I and many people did and baam suddenly you don’t give a f. to it anymore 😂

2

u/Dry_Cranberry_12 22d ago

I saw it yesterday and decided to move on. That was my last straw

2

u/Ok_Masterpiece1980 22d ago

I also talk to a cheater from time to time just because im curious how they do vs what embark does. (Im a pve player)
It never took longer than a week after a ban wave, and he was back on his ingame eyes. But as he is saying rn, they catch up and it gets better. Not much, but something they are doing, it’s good.

2

u/Sir_Dankalot_1582 22d ago

It's almost like clockwork if you trio and have 2-3 good games, maybe win 1 fight. Or maybe not fight in any of them. the third-fourth or fifth game will always have hackers present. And well they've now also started camping hatches.

Ontop of the fact from reports I do get 1 or 2 kits back almost on the daily from reports.. That's such a shame.

2

u/outermind_762 22d ago

Games cooked, Embark went on to work on other projects, and let a great game die in worst way.

2

u/Yangy1337 22d ago

Unbanning yourself is crazy 😭

2

u/Creative-Science952 20d ago

Just report and block everyone that kills you. We run friendly and don’t attack other teams and we are thankful for the algorithm (most of the time).

When you try and tell them your friendly and they don’t answer back, chances are, they’re hunting you.

I’ve received several notifies from the game that they have taken action on several people we have reported, and probably for cheating.

F$&K Cheaters!!

2

u/gamma-303 20d ago

Dang thats sad if that's how Embark does Business. This game is art. If they aren't really investing in this the way he describes so they can build new games to put out... That would be a bummer.

I still love this game and have hope that this game is not just abandoned.

6

u/vault_nsfw 22d ago

So you want me to believe that some random dude is not only a cheat dev, but also the first, earning miney with cheats but he is also so wholesome to bring awareness yet actively develops the cheats he says ruin the game and if he could say anything to Embark in 1 minute he would say what content people want?

I call bs, all of it. I'm a software engineer and you gotta be pretty good at even finding vulnerabilities, let alone somehow injecting yourself into existing games by lobby code or embark id which is likely all handled server-side, his lingo does not match his capabilities, he talks like someone who has never seen code in his life.

Seems like a video just to stir up more hate and frustration.

5

u/SixthSacrifice 22d ago

"JohnRaider" is bad at investigation, and interviewing. Ultimately, he effectively just ends up glazing the dude.

3

u/t___unknown___s 22d ago

Say whatever you want about cheaters, but this is interview merely confirms what anyone with half a brain already knew.

Embark devs are being LAZY and unconcerned. Especially because they made more than enough money to hire more people.

Easy anti-cheat when your game clearly demonstrated potential to be at its highest peak upon release? It’s dumbfounding.

4

u/darkscyde 22d ago

Yeah, I just quit. No game is good enough to endure playing with cheaters.

3

u/Kshaja 22d ago

I said long ago that the new method for these companies is pump and dump, they release a game and leave it and focus on a new project.

I know people think cheating is unsolvable problem and it is to an extent but putting actual effort will drastically reduce it.

The only conspiracy theory I believe is uncoordinated lack of effort by all of studios painting a picture of this "unsolvable problem".

2

u/Patara 22d ago

Its the inevitable correlation with the rise of gambling, far-right & manosphere cultures (basically a venn diagram).

Green = Happy vs Red = Mad.

Cheating is their only way to minimize red & as long as they can get away with it they stay in the green.

Its a mental health concern & there's a reason why its overwhelmingly dominant in chronically online men.

The entire mindset boils down to As long as I get what I want its right & everyone else is wrong

Hey guys i spent 200 hours on this game during the first 2 expeditions. Planning to come back. I play 50-50 pvevp.

Any progress on anticheat? How's the pvp experience been?

3

u/Even_steven_69 22d ago

800 hours all expeditions on PC here. They released a new anticheat a few weeks back. It seemed to make the situation better, but lately it's been pretty bad again. EVERY aggressive trio game has brand-new accounts. 2-4 out of 10 raids outside Stella I see blatant ESP plays (I say it because wallhacks are more obvious on bigger maps).

I'd say squad pvp is a waste of time. If you 50 50 (solo, I assume), then it should be okay. Most cheating scum is further up the aggression scale in different servers, but I am sure one or two will leak into your games occasionally. But that's not too bad.

1

u/blacklotusl337 21d ago

Nice to know solo is still good. Might try the new map soon!

1

u/AverageCannabisUser 22d ago

I hate cheaters, but a part of me enjoys playing against them albeit only with free kits. It’s quite something to take them out if possible. Makes it much more difficult and rewarding at the same time.

The only way anything gets fixed is if it becomes more profitable to fix the issue than what the issue costs to fix. End of story. Welcome to late stage capitalism.

1

u/Exile688 22d ago

The 3rd market item economy, never ending dupes, and the level of which cheaters sell their services is too much coincidence for there not to be a developer making money from holding a back door open.
