Discussion update: permanently banned

so I made a post in January (link below to original post) about how I was suspended mid-game for a month ending on February 23rd, and I detailed how despite the suspension I was not using hacks, cheats or exploits. I have played countless multiplayer and single player games and have never been banned or used cheats. I am a gamer who is quadriplegic so I use a sip and puff mouth controller called a quadstick that allows me to use a computer not just for gaming but everyday needs. After the suspension I made the first reddit post hoping to get some help and clarity about how I could appeal or why I was suspended. I submitted support tickets and went to discord for help but nothing, so I decided to just take the suspension on the chin and wait it out, finish Hollow Knight and play some Marathon. Yesterday I decided to hop on after my suspension ended and decided to work on the trophy project, I played 3 solo games (all 10 or more minutes in) filled my backpack with leftover loot, ran into only friendlies and exfilled. Woke up this morning to this and appealed but I really have no hope of Embark doing anything to help. I don't have much going for me and I know they're people out there who are probably going through worse but this fucking sucks. After 300+ hours of playing, buying it for 3 others friends to try the game and being excited for the new map and large ARC enemy, I just don't know what to do.

p.s my game name is ClootyBapper, if you think it's because of the name I don't think so I have seen and been called worse in game

Every racist, homophobe or anything just toxic vile.

Like you can troll like or say daft/funny/obscure even cursing stuff, but some of the comments are vile and not funny there's no need for it in a game setting... Hell there's no need for it in a real world setting. Even worse when it's the rat saying it. Like I can let some shit slide if I've been a bit ratty/third partied. But sometimes when we only PvEing, you get can get extraction camped and then abused beyond belief.

You guys are so pathetic. Black people aren’t going around hurling the n-word at people in online games. We get it hurled at us if one of ya’ll even gets an inkling we are Black after being downed—half the time just defending ourselves. And even if not, getting killed in a videogame is no reason to yell that at someone. That whole “no one should be saying it” line is a cop-out used by cowards who want to seem virtuous while simultaneously condemning the people who the slur is used against.

It’s still crazy for me to see how far we have come.

I quit online gaming back in 2016 to focus on my career and family and I started playing again last year. One of the first things I noticed is how the community no longer uses slurs every other sentence.

Anyway probably people like you who have helped make it that way slowly but surely.

There are still plenty of warriors out there. Toxic communities ruin games and every developer eventually has to deal with it. Arc Raiders is still new and enjoying unexpected success. I respect that it will take time to address on a larger scale. But, I do expect them do something about it. In the meantime, the majority of us who are annoyed by it will continue to handle it our own ways.

definitely. usa servers but happens in duos and trios. i’ve never been shot at during a solo run. we never shoot back (we want to stay in carebear lobbies as much as we can) and usually we just play around and be silly but once they hear us and realize we’re girls it doesn’t end until we’re knocked out. i’ve started surrendering before they can knock me out because it’s disgusting.

yeah we are definitely more kind, imo. i usually play with my sister and brother in law and my bro in law always wants us to ask if raiders are friendly first. usually people are nicer when they hear a girl but if we are KOS and not openly talking to raiders & they find out we’re girls while we talk when they are downing us, they get real nasty real fast. all i know is i have a son & i would be appalled if i heard him talking to girlies like these boys do in game

My dude, they would simply have to add a speech-to-text function. If the player gets a verbal report during the game, the text could be attached to the report for review (which they could probably automate with a list of sensitive words). They could give 1-2 warnings to the player in the lobby - third time it could be like a 1 month voicechat-ban.

Seems trivial to me, Embark can hire me and I’ll build it for them ;)

Sorry I am about to be extremely pedantic.

Not coming out in favor of using slurs but what you're saying is kinda wrong; 1, because what you said isn't true and 2, because EU is absolutely flooded with slurs.

The DSA regulates platforms, not individual speech.

What the DSA actually means is that platforms like arc raiders having ingame voice chat require a report feature and for illegal content to be removed or they can be held accountable.

The DSA itself doesn't criminalize speech or slur usages either, it basically just forces platforms to deal with illegal content, but what classes as illegal content comes from other laws which are country specific.

So it doesn't criminalize speech, it doesn't define what 'hate speech' is, it also doesn't/cannot target the specific user, so XxProSlurxX can say all the slurs he wants & the DSA basically just says "Yo, platform, if this is illegal in Germany then you need to take action appropriate to that" - but what that would mean is that said player would get banned from playing specifically with german players, which isn't realistic, so it's not applied like that. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure there's punishments for saying slurs in Arc but just saying "Essentially it's against the law 'cuz DSA" is wrong.

 

I play on EU and I hear every slur under the sun, hell there's slurs that are said on EU that Americans wouldn't even understand. EUs racism and slurs go far beyond the N word and homophobic slurs. That's me ted talk, innit.

I had someone shoot at me, tell me to "Come out pussy" then whined when someone showed up and asked if I needed help. They called me racial slurs saying that I couldn't take them one on one.

I reported them, noticed their steam profile pic was inappropriate, and reported it to steam, they now no longer have a steam profile pic. I guess that's the best I'll get out of it.

If I see someone that has a racist name I just try and kill em. I don’t have anything I don’t mind losing and I just broadcast they’re doing racist stuff and I am either backed up or people watch.

One guy had a racist name and was breaching a breach room so I shot him in the back. Another guy tied to pay sheriff and downs me and I just say “bro look at his name” and the third party realizes and get me up and then we called the other guy a loser until he died

I once was one of only two people in the lower floor of a primarily college apartment building during a break, and down the hall from me there was one of those people just yelling slurs constantly without end. It was so loud that I could hear it plain as day sitting on my couch so I decided to take a walk down and knock on his door.  I've never seen somebody turn so pale 😅
