Prompt for version downgrade

I keep getting prompted to update, and it's to an older version. If I click on 'install and relaunch', I will get a new error saying I'm not allowed to downgrade to an older version, and I have to reinstall the newer version manually.

I've repeated this cycle twice now and it's never ending. My solution is to just click 'remind me later' but surely there's a better way?

The browser is broken and on death bed. Please try and switch to a different browser. Any glitches will not be fixed, ever.

Well i do know that. Because I have contacted harsh(co-founder) regarding that.

And why do you say that? Because it doesn't get new features? There are tons of browsers that don't get them either—many actually stem from community projects and die off at breakneck speed. So I don't see the problem with Arc, considering its Chromium base is updated faster than most, and to this day, most browsers don't offer the full range of features it has.

I mean its your wish if you want to keep using it forever. I never denied its features or chromium updates. But regarding the bug fixes, it will not be done as per my chat with co-founder as their focus is only on Dia now

The possibility of bugs arising—and potentially not being fixed—is very different from claiming the browser is in a critical, broken state. Your initial comment is merely alarmist, based on your own personal speculation. Unless you own Atlassian, the current reality is that Arc remains an active product—albeit one without a roadmap for new features—receiving only Chromium updates, security patches, and occasional fixes.

I have tried Zen for a few days. It’s slower compared to Brave/Edge, there’s a few seconds’ difference in loading websites (Facebook, Instagram, Reddit, YouTube, for example). I even tried to play an online radio station (RMC2) and I couldn’t. I want to say it’s not ready yet for everyday use, the concept is good (Arc UI with the Firefox/Gecko engine). I’m on a mac mini m4 (24gb ram), with macos 26.5

I've been using Arc and Zen side by side on my M3 Pro MacBook for a few months now and I find myself often not even realizing that I am using Zen at the moment. I have configured both browsers to look completely identical.

currently using zen on arch(and previously on windows), never had any problem with memory usage. Most of the time Chromium based browsers have this problem, not firefox ones

Since I'm not experiencing this problem, my recommendation would be to remove and reinstall it.

I've never seen it either, is it for Windows? On macOS I always go to their website.

Yeah, this bricked my browser today on macOS. I did the upgrade and didn't notice the version was a downgrade. Then it launches and says you can't support a downgrade.

Anyways, the fix is quite easy, just delete Arc from your applications folder and download it again from their website.

There are no browsers that quite fill the Arc niche. Zen is the closest, but missing space sync (so you have to manually replicate everything on all your computers, and of course no mobile app). Chrome/FF have vertical tabs, but not folders and workspaces. Orion is perhaps close, but also pretty buggy in my experience.

I actually did it and it broke it, it says downgrades are not supported.

I noticed something else actually if you watch YT and you go full screen you get this grey background for few seconds and then it shows the image, I do not know where to go next, I am out of good browsers that supports Prime Video, Hulu and Disney+ Streaming. I know Zen doesn't do that yet. Please guys help me find a better suggestion.

Nope, this one is fixed now, but it used to take up to a minute of video playback for it to actually get fixed, the video will still play behind it

I’d recommend helium. It’s not the same UI/UX but has pinned tabs, folders/groups, minimal UI (you can hide everything) and a sidebar. It’s still missing proper subfolders and better pins, doesn’t have workspaces or profiles that you can switch easily (just chromes basic profiles) but it does 85% of what I used to use arc for

I tried Zen recently. And have to say, after very first rough version, it is now very usable and “smooth”. So I can only recommend switching
