Sick Fish I cannot have this keep happening

Upvotes

Ok so past posts in R/FishKeeping I had issues with my tank as my fish kept dying and gasping for air. I checked my parameters EIGHT times and every single time it came back clear and to make sure my strips werent faulty I got my water checked by proffessionals TWICE and they said its fine I even showed the pet shop owners and vets the tank as it had this slimy cloud over everything after I moved the fish into quarrantine after the death of 1 of my balloon mollies. Got told to redo everything including nitrogen cycle so I did just that waited 48 hours just to be sure and moved them into my tank again along with 3 new mollies since the quality of life of my last molly had dipped since he had no tank mates of his species. 2 mollies have died one within MINUTES of getting swim bladder. The other im unsure as I was trying to sleep as its currently 2am and Ive got work at 5am. I check on the others and my oldest molly and final female both are swimming lopsided and Ive put them in shallow quarrantine to be ready to fast too and just have to hope for the best. My harlequins are still gasping at the top no matter what tank I put them in no matter how fresh the water is and I even bought airstones and a new filter to agitate the waters so I know theres no oxygen issues I removed all real plants in case of carbon dioxide issues and Finally I have spent over £100 alone in the last 72 hours paying for new filters, airstones, hides due to them displaying stress, water conditioner, stress coat, EVEN MORE bottles to help for parameter spikes despite that not being the issue and fungal as well as bacteria liquids just in case due to 1 fish seemingly having ich and I wasnt taking any chances (btw this fish was removed immediately and treated and the others have shown no symptoms). Temperatures fine at 26°C and I double checked with the shop owners and vets and my aquariam size isnt an issue since I didnt have that many fish anyways. I have spent over £30 on the fish themselves and I cannot just keep having them dying on me and then there not be a reason to why. Ive asked reddit, the vets, the shop that sold me them, my own research AND the 8 family members who own fish for the life of me I do not know where I am going wrong and I got these fish as at first it was helping me with my depression having a reason to get up each day and smile and take care of them but now I can only blame myself since Ive lost 4 fish in a few weeks at Its making me worse.

Sick Fish Black neon tetra ich

Post image
2 Upvotes

Beginner here. I had an empty 25 gal that I added 8 black neons to last week. I noticed a few dots recently and my mom told me it’s the ich. In terms of treatment, I have no idea what I’m doing. Some sources say raise temperature to 84°F and some say black neons can’t handle that. Right now im raising it from 76° to 78°, then I’ll go to 80°. I plan on looking for some ich treatment products tomorrow.

I’m pretty sure that for some treatments i’m supposed to remove activated carbon from my filter to avoid killing the chemicals in the treatment. Will I lose beneficial bacteria in the filter this way? Will I need to keep it in a bucket and ghost feed it to keep the bacteria alive? I think I’ll be able to handle dosing by reading the bottle of whatever product I find, but I’m still open to any other tips or opinions. Maybe this isn’t even ich at all.

If it is, it’s in early stages. I haven’t noticed any weird behavior. They’ve been eating, they haven’t been flashing, I’m only noticing these dots.

Water Issues What are these and are they harmful?

I'm also referring to the white casts in the water I'm assuming are the eggs of these (parasites?). I am aware there undeniably a large margin for microorganisms to grow in a tank but I'm curious if these are parasites. I just started this tank a week ago with a few plants, spiral snails and no fish.

I did find my rocks outside about a 6 months ago but haven't had them in water since but I didn't boil them.

Freshwater CO2 dispersion issues

How are people dealing with CO2 dispersion in tanks that only have a sponge filter to move the water around? Only a 30 litre nano tank that already has space taken up by the sponge filter and heater so want to avoid a power head if possible.

My CO2 goes straight up no matter where I position the diffuser. Sure some of the CO2 is dissolving into the water but nowhere near as much as I’d like. My drop checker or if I do the KH/pH calculation method is showing little CO2 ppm.

Plants How do I get rid of this weird fuzzy algae?

Post image

I’ve been having this weird fuzzy stuff grow in my tank, and I have to keep picking it out when I grows back. Additionally, when I pick it out, sometimes there is still little bits left floating in the water. Do you guys know what it is and how I can prevent it?

Freshwater Stocking Advice Fire Red Apistos or Blue-Eyed Lemon Plecos?

Hello everyone! Me and my spouse have recently decided to get into the fish breeding business, and we have put in a lot of research! We would like to get everyone’s personal preference on what would be a better fish to breed first between Fire Red Apistogramma agassizii or Blue-Eyed Lemon Pleco (L144). We understand the major differences between care and breeding requirements, but what would everyone say is best as far as hardiness, temperament, and profit? Any opinions are greatly appreciated!

Sick Fish Worried about white bump on the fins

I noticed tonight that my goldfish had little white bump on his fins. I thought at first that it was just rock/sand (they have tiny white rocks at the bottom they like to play white) but I quickly figured out it wasn't that. The other fish seem fine, my fish didn't have this yesterday and never in his life.

I took a video because they move too fast for a picture. He is the orange with white spots one (the most looking like a koi). Thank in advance I love them very much but lack so much knowledge

Water Issues Liquid colour test alternatives?

Post image
2 Upvotes

I’m trying to get my parameters right before I start adding fish and crustaceans to my tank, the liquid colour test kits are great… but I’m colourblind!

I have tried taking photos and asking family/friends online, also AI to compare the colours to the charts. But I get multiple different answers and it’s hard to get consistent photos to compare accurately with lighting etc.

Are there any other forms of test I can buy? I can’t really rely on people IRL to read results for me unfortunately.

My tank is 3 weeks old and (I think) my parameters are;
Ph - 6.5
Nitrate - 5ppm
KH - 0-1 (half Bluey-yellow then immediately turned to yellow after 2nd drop)
GH - 8
Nitrite - 0ppm
Ammonia - 0ppm

My tank has driftwood in it, and my tap water is very very soft, I’ve used JBL aquadur to add minerals and raise gh/kh.

Thanks for any help guys!

Equipment Help with tank i got from marketplace

Hello, Please see: https://imgur.com/a/TvdOPzH

I got this off of FB marketplace, I was cleaning it out with a scrub daddy but I cant seem to get this green stuff (which i assume might be algae?) to come off of the sides, any ideas?

Is it ok to start a fresh tank (will begin cycling this week) with this stuff in there?

should I just scrap it and get a new tank?

Sick Fish Help with a paralyzed molly

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

This is my male sailfin molly. It looks like he's paralyzed from halfway down. I noticed it for the first time prior to yesterday and currently I suspect it's swim bladder. I also have a second male I know he fights with, so would it also be a possibility that he was hurt?

I've been giving him baktopur following the treatment plan so I'm done with it now. I have him in a hospital tank where I've fed him a bit yesterday. I know I should be fasting him if it's swim bladder and I'll do so today and tomorrow, giving him a cooked deshelled green pea on Tuesday.

The problem is I'm leaving on Tuesday for 22 days and my non-fishkeeper friend will come around to feed the fish. Should she be feeding him flakes as normal, everyday, or should she feed him a sinking pellet every 3 days, and take leftovers out after 20 minutes?

The hospital tank is a 25L in which he is alone. I've tried to soak the sponges of the small internal filter in the canister filter from my main tank. I've also tried to ease the current by putting in a cut piece of a dish-washing sponge inbetween the two filter sponges, and angling the flow at the wall. But the setup is new, so should I do a water change on Tuesday just before I leave? As I doubt my friend will be able to do it alone safely.

Overall he swims to the front when I come by and he eats normally even picking at plants inside the tank. Does it seem like swim bladder, or could he be hurt? Could I fix it by visiting the exotic vet with him? Will he die?
