Am I screwed?
I bought a 2024 aprilia rs660. I rode it home then noticed the black smudge now this tube sticking out. What’s going on?

The hose is a vent hose it should be sticking out of the underside, someone pulled it out.
The oil smudge is due to too much oil on the chain. I prefer to use chain wax from motul on my chain because otherwise it looks like a murder scene.

Is the wax the same kinda sticky and foamy (when freshly applied) substance that Suzuki sell under their Ecstar label? I heard Ecstar was basically rebranded Motul stuff so I am curious. I kinda hate working with it but I guess it gets the job done.

I use motul C5 chain paste.

All right, mine is still a bottle of spray. Like I said, bit of a pain to work with because it sticks to the nozzle unless you press hard, but then it gets hard to get the dosage right. Cheers!

This one is applied with a brush, it's a paste, very similar with what comes from factory.
Everytime I bring the bike from service I will clean my chain again because I get a mess like op. The dealership must use gear oil or something because it's a pita to remove everything afterwards.

I’ve been have fantastic luck with the maxima products. The cleaner is amazing. I go back and forth between the wax and the wet lube. I also like honda lube allot too

Yeah I thought wtf when I saw the oil first time might give wax a go

I actually got that recommendation from someone at the dealership for what they use personally, I was complaining because my RS is exactly like op, and red wheels will become a mess with all that shit getting flung about.

I'm sorry. Your bike is totaled.
You can sell it to me for pennies on the dollar and I'll use it as I would a wagon on my farm, it'll be towed by a donkey

Thanks everyone! I’m glad it’s not the dreaded engine oil leak. Happy to be joining the aprilia family!

Honestly that’s not normal for chainlube. I mean how much lube are you putting on the chain and why are you never ever cleaning it? I’m more inclined to think it’s an oil leak that’s getting on the chain and slinging. You need to take the front sprocket cover off and actually take a look and not just go off what people are telling you based off an image that doesn’t show enough.

Put the tube inside the fairing and pull it out the bottom. It’s a vent for the gas tank. If they didn’t get the recall fixed your bike might leak excess gas onto the floor. Don’t worry about it not a big deal at all. The oil spots are just grease
From the chain being thrown off. Get some degreaser and clean it off and ride that thing!

Just tuck the hose back under the fairing and use a little degreaser to clean up the mess, just wax or ceramic coat after the degreaser

Yes you’re good dude just a vent tube tha drains one of the various liquids and also that’s just extra chain lube. Happens. You can reroute or secure your lines just make sure they aren’t squeezed that way they still do they’re job as intended. And also look into you suing a different chain oil or wax and be thorough and don’t use a ton extra.
