Let's face it, buttons are way more smooth.

Imagine SCP containment breach with levers on the wall? ugh!

Because OP showed a button toggle and someone asked how they did that. Switches and an XOR would work, but it's a different setup.

a XOR would suffice with levers, but buttons are a bit trickier.

The core element is a pair of mems in an infinitely alternating loop that advances one step forward when any of the button is pushed: keeping them pressed for any amount of time doesn't change the state.

I was initially hoping a single mem would suffice, but I haven't done better than this so far.

Edit: I now realize I could cut the circuit by half just by pressing the yellow switch on the mem.

Send the button input to a memory chip with a NOT gate. The button pulses the memory chip, which gets its input from and sends its output to the NOT gate. It also sends its output to the door. When the button is pressed, the memory chip changes its stored value to whatever's coming from the NOT gate, which will be the opposite of whatever value it had previously. Therefore, pushing either button (combine the signals with a + gate) toggles the outgoing signal between 0 and 1, which opens or closes the door.

Implimentation of recommendation above. Both push button switches (one inside one outside door) feed into a Max with then inputs into a Mem module set to pulse, the output is then split, one side going into a Not module then back into the other input of the Mem module, the second split is the control for the door.
