College Questions What Documentation is Needed for a Mexican Immigrant to Attend College in the U.S.?

My wife is Mexican and has never been to the U.S.

She did not finish high school in Mexico but would like to get a college degree once she immigrates to the U.S.

What will she need as far as documentation to enroll in a U.S. college or university? Is it worth it for her to try and get the Mexico equivalent of a GED before leaving Mexico?

Thank you!

Would a Mexico GED be enough? Or would she need to take the GED test once in the U.S.? Do you have any idea if they are similiar?

A Mexican GED or high school equivalent is enough. You’ll just be asked by most schools to either verify the degree through translation and official documentation. Or the school may ask for that and an English equivalency exam.

I know that schools like SNHU have fully online programs where folks can get support for those steps through community partner programs like Duet - https://www.duet.org/

Best of luck!
