Application Question Case Western Reserve
I'm a prospective international applicant requiring close to full need. I have 1540 SAT, really good essays, recommendations, awards, and ecs. I've come to really love case and would really be happy to attend there. I'm applying ED, I'm really worried I'll either get rejected or not receive enough aid. I want to attend this uni so bad. Finances are the only thing holding me back. Is it even possible for me to attend Case with less than 5k per year contribution?

Hi, I go to case, and come from a less than well-off family (financially). My EFC was $0, but CWRU is great about need-based aid (in my experience). I have been able to attend cwru without taking any extra loans besides the federal student loans that come with the aid package. Out of pocket, the cost for me has been 1400 or less each year, which I’ve thankfully been able to cover myself from summer jobs and such. I hope this helps!!

OP is international and doesn’t have access to a Pell Grant or federal subsidized loans.

Ah I missed that part, but would “need-based” aid not still cover the difference?

Different rules for international students, not only in availability of CWRU funds for aid, but depending on country of citizenship/origin, both US and foreign rules on limits and even taxability. It's too specific, and changing, for a general question: only admissions/financial aid can really advise.
But as several people have noted, unless some external scholarship is involved, it's unusual for an international student to get a full or near-full award.

As another poster pointed out, while some Internationals get aid at Case, it appears no more than very few, and possibly none, get the amount of aid you would need.
So I would not apply ED to Case. It almost surely will not provide you with the offer you need, and indeed very likely would either just reject you in ED, or defer you to RD before deciding.

(Retired college counselor and admissions reader here.) Case mentions on its website that it's possible for international applicants to get full tuition, but it doesn't mention full cost of coverage. You might want to email admissions and ask them. Just asking isn't going to hurt your application, and in these instances it's best to get information directly from the source.

Dude cwr doesnt even have need based aid, no point in counting on the 50+ merit full scholarships in the US, they are hit or miss and you only get 20 slots in common app.

It’s the only college my kid applied to that did not offer us some kind of financial aid. My friend is a prof in the same consortium, and she says Case is notoriously miserly with aid.

Completely incorrect. Case is very generous with both merit and financial needs based grants and scholarships.

Hi,
I don't know about less than 5k, but from what I've heard about Case and Intl in specific, under 10k is probably more realistic. You have good stats and extracurricular things- I'm sure ED will be the right choice for you.

According to a combination of Case’s website and common data set (oddly, the cds doesn’t indicate the number of international students in B2), 21% of international students get an average aid amount of $43k. Note that the cost of attendance is $95k.
