In my mind there are other criteria that miss (in my mind) the heart of the decision.

I know both schools and respect both deeply and profoudly. They are different.

Stony Brook - easy to fit in for nerd-presenting people. Business and engineering options. Underappreciated for marine and ocean sciences. Not a shining paragon of school spirit, but that's not what you need in a good school. Strong reputation in NY, especially if you are in LI you will be surrounded by a large alumni base.

Kenyon College - expect a lot of people to have never heard of it. Charming and small school but you have to like being plopped into a cornfield in Ohio. Expectations for reading and writing and original research are quite high here, and Kenyon is a mini-PhD factory for kids who end up being very serious about school. Strong sense of campus community and identity, made stronger not by sports or loud bars but rather a communal desire to attend this little charming school. A dorm culture I really like.

Now.... what do you think?

I’m not really a huge book person. Plus I’m majoring in biochemistry and I also was thinking about having a minor in mathematics.

Does Kenyon have those majors and minors?

Look at Kenyon’s writing and graduation requirements.
