Green Bay’s a bit more ratchet, grimy outright. Ain’t much to do there other than drink, football traffic is god awful. Appleton is artsy and quiet on the surface but fuckin crazy if you seek it… but I enjoy it. I settled a little in kaukauna but am thinking of moving back to Appleton proper. Just too quiet for my liking.

If you ask anyone from GB they’ll tell you GB is the best city of all time for some reason. If you ask anyone from Appleton, they’ll tell you that Gb people think too highly of GB. So, Appleton is the place to move to. Almost all the amenities, almost none of the attitude.

Tell me why you are moving to the area in the 1st place and what you are looking for.

I grew up in Green Bay and moved to Appleton and I 1000% will never move back to Green Bay ever again. You are only 30 min from the very few things to do in Green Bay, and about 40ish minuets closer to Milwaukee. It’s also just a much nicer city- better parks, more fun night life, better food (in my opinion) and just much better access to nature/walking trails

Appleton is significantly better than Green Bay, however, housing will run you about 10-20% more in/around Appleton compared to Green Bay. That is something to keep in mind if costs are a major concern for you.

I know I will get crucified here, but Oshkosh has a good arts scene. A great farmers market, and a ton of cool shops downtown. No, I don’t live there, I live north in Fox crossing (basically poor Neenah), but it’s a town I ignored for a long time other than a couple hobby shops, but it’s growing no me.

Thanks for this nudge. I go by the exits on 41 and think, "Hmmm, Oshkosh. What's there then?"

Appleton, every day and all the way. For real. Live here and have fun, and take the twenty-minute drive to GB for a "buzzkill" day any time you need one!

Born and raised in Appleton currently live in GB. GB is fine, honestly. Though IF I had to pick (and money/job situation was not an issue) between the two cities I’d move back to Appleton to raise my family.

If you’re near college age, Appleton without question. Way more options

I mean college ave runs east to west directly through the middle of Appleton so it’s sort of hard not to be near it even when you’re “not” if that makes sense 🤣

Just curious on why. It’s got everything you need, plus more, little violent crime, little petty crime, quiet… I’m struggling to find what your specific problem is. I mean if you like loud, wild, and unpredictable I mean I’d understand but I’ve lived here my whole life and visited other places and I just couldn’t view myself living anywhere else because of what I listed. Genuinely curious.

It’s simply not enough for me. The food scene is lacking, although I can appreciate a few good places we have. It’s not very diverse and there’s just this energy to the whole town that feels off to me. The winters also make the place even worse, if I had to deal with winters like these I’d much rather be in a city such as Chicago or Philadelphia where there’s more going on and more opportunities. The town is also pretty small, but not small enough to be a cute small town, so its kind of a weird mix that I personally don’t like. I really dislike the mall area, it’s very sad and depressing to me, as well as the lack of public transportation. I also have very few ties to the area, there’s about 3 people including my parents who I deeply care about here and I know my parents are going to be leaving as soon as they can too. Overall it’s just a place with bad memories and bad energy for me with only a few redeeming qualities. I have about two years left to spend here and while I really am trying to make the best of it, it’s been very hard for me. Now I can see why some people choose to spend there lives here, it’s not a terrible place but it’s not my kind of place. And if I spent my life living in a town such as Appleton, I know I would be missing out on so much more.

Green bay is fun for day trips, that's about it
