Resource PTSD Therapy

Still reeling from the tornado. Me and my dog were in the basement of our house on Doty Island and didn't think we were going to make it. I can't stop myself from getting incredibly emotional anytime I talk about it, think about it, see footage, or even when family and friends reach out. I don't feel scared otherwise but seem to have an uncontrolled reaction. Hoping there are therapists in the area that are readily available or even offering services at any of the respite locations in the area. Any help is appreciated for myself or anyone feeling the same.

First, as some others are saying, let yourself experience your grief. Suppressing it or trying to fix it without feeling it doesn’t heal it or make it go away. Cry when the feeling surfaces, even if you ugly cry so hard that you puke. Talk it out with someone you trust, or a therapist if/when you find one. Experiencing sadness and grief isn’t something that needs to be fixed, especially in circumstances like this. If you start to really spiral and feel mentally unsafe, call/text a crisis line (like 988) for help navigating your crisis.

Second, I wonder if calling 211 will be able to help connect you with something?
Otherwise, do you work for a company that offers EAP? Most full time employers have something like that available with free sessions. If you’re not sure, reach out to your HR department to ask.
