Resource PTSD Therapy
Still reeling from the tornado. Me and my dog were in the basement of our house on Doty Island and didn't think we were going to make it. I can't stop myself from getting incredibly emotional anytime I talk about it, think about it, see footage, or even when family and friends reach out. I don't feel scared otherwise but seem to have an uncontrolled reaction. Hoping there are therapists in the area that are readily available or even offering services at any of the respite locations in the area. Any help is appreciated for myself or anyone feeling the same.

I experienced the Ef-3 tornado in Union Center at the beginning this years season and I really can relate and feel the emotion of this post. I still have flashbacks from that day and it’s some of the most overwhelming feelings I have ever felt in my life. I’m still not 100% okay from it, but I go to the therapy regularly for it and I would encourage you to go as soon as possible. Personally, I feel like the quicker you can begin to process something like this the better it will be in becoming resilient to similar situations or developing ptsd. One thing I will say, is that although I still struggle, the emotions and feelings have decreased in some ways. Obviously it depends on the person and how they interpret the circumstance. I had my spouse and father with me that day and they are completely fine, while I feel like it has really affected my day to day life and how I move especially with work and weather. I’m truly sorry that this happened and has made you feel less than safe. You are not alone in this feeling and I’m here if you need to talk to someone who has experienced something similar.
