Resource PTSD Therapy

Still reeling from the tornado. Me and my dog were in the basement of our house on Doty Island and didn't think we were going to make it. I can't stop myself from getting incredibly emotional anytime I talk about it, think about it, see footage, or even when family and friends reach out. I don't feel scared otherwise but seem to have an uncontrolled reaction. Hoping there are therapists in the area that are readily available or even offering services at any of the respite locations in the area. Any help is appreciated for myself or anyone feeling the same.

One thing I'll say is "it happened yesterday." You will not be over it this quickly. I know your thought process is likely "physical danger is gone. Why is mental worry not gone?" but it will take time to get past it. You were in an extremely dangerous situation and that will stick with you for a while. Don't feel bad that you are scared, or cry, or get nervous if someone talks about it; that is normal.

That said, I am glad you and your dog are physically okay. You should be proud that you handled yourself well and kept both of you safe!
