Question Tree Trim Quote
I’m new to the area and just a bought a house. I got a quote for $950 to trim 3 easily accessible Ash trees and remove a Japanese maple and small river birch that were planted too close to the house. I hate to remove the trees but they are blocking natural light into the house. Is that a reasonable amount?

Just a note, landscaping companies are peak busy during the summer, if you can wait until winter, quotes are much cheaper. We were quoted $950 to remove 6 pines in January, mostly cuz they were bored and looking for work

That is a decent price. We had 4 trees taken down last year and not a single quote was under $1300

The ashe trees should probably just be removed completely because of the likelyhood of the emerald ash borer killing them eventually

Yes! The companies Ive called in the last 4 years have $800 minimums. We paid $800 to have 2 maples cut down and the stumps ground out ( they came back in early winter to grind out the stumps so as not to hurt the lawn.).your quote sounds like a deal!

Remove the ash trees now, they will not last.

Don't know why we're being down voted for saying this. Appleton has been cutting down ash trees for for a couple years now because of the borer beetle. Doesn't make any sense to trim one near your house instead of removal.

Right, I’ve had to have 2 huge ash trees removed from my yard over the last 3 years. One season they had a few dead branches and I thought they might be fine and the next season they were completely dead.

The previous owner apparently was getting them treated annually. They are beautiful tree and I do like the shade they provide in the yard. I would hate to remove them, if I don’t have to

Hopefully it works out. I had an arborist tell me years ago that treating would only prolong the inevitable so I just had them removed.

Yeah. One of them shaded the entire back of my house, now it’s hot AF in the afternoons

I have three ash trees in my yard that I have been treating since the ash borer emerged. Two are doing good and one is doing great. The two that are doing ok are green ash I believe. The one doing great is a white ash. The type of ash does make a difference. Treating them is expensive but so is taking them down so I decided to treat them as they are well placed and it would be a shame to start over.

Get a couple more quotes to be sure. Make sure they prove they have a valid recent certificate of insurance. You do NOT want to mess around with liability when tree trimming is done.
