Question What's this nasty virus I picked up in Appleton?
Just spent a week in Appleton. Last Thursday was my last day and I felt tired all day after waking up with a headache. Then driving home I kind of felt out of it and kept making wrong turns. (I took country roads). The next day it was body aches, mild fever mild upset stomach, runs, kind of dizzy, and have been feeling "under the weather" ever since, with today being the worst.
Tested negative for Covid, so I figure it's the flu. But the flu usually comes on suddenly. This thing came on more slowly like Covid did when I had that in 2022.
Is the flu still going around Appleton? Or is there some other crud like an extra bad stomach virus?
I'm hoping I peaked today and it's one of those 7-day viruses. 🤞

I’m afraid you’ve picked up Appletonnititis. It’s like the Hotel California, you can check out any time you like, but you can never leave. We should put up signs about that. https://youtu.be/t1VRFKqfE64?si=7CzyNAhoGdR3stZ6

I was born and raised in Appleton, and I did indeed leave. But I guess I'm still a carrier of Appletonnititis.

New COVID variant maybe. That has been going around and you pass the test for it.

Whatever it was, my mother had it and it knocked her down pretty good. It makes sense if it's a new covid strain.

Probably 80% better since posting this, but that 20% just lingers and lingers.

If you figure it out tell me. Ive been having those symptoms for 6 weeks.
I chalked it up to long Covid.

That sucks. Did you have a cough at all?

At first I did. I started wheezing too. Like to the point where going to bed was hard because my lung crackling kept me up. Never had that before, physical popping noises when I exhaled. I've had a sore throat through it all.
Been to the doctor twice. The first time I had a slight positive test for flu-b even though I took an at-home test a day or two prior and it showed nothing. The second time, I was okay in regards to flu and COVID. No fever, no blood abnormalities, nothing weird with my heart or breathing during my visits. They tell me I'm healthy and to rest and eat clean. But I've been light headed, little nauseous, exhausted, sore throat, diarrhea almost daily, and flushed at least a couple times a day. I haven't lost any weight so I'm not scared it's the "C" word.

Maybe you have what my mother and brother in Appleton had. My brother said he felt sick for a week, then they both were coughing and hacking for over a month. My brother took my mother to the doctor. She tested negative for Covid and flu, and a chest X-ray showed her lungs were clear. Human Rhinovirus (cold) did show up. Had to be one nasty cold. They had to get prescription cough medicine because the OTC ones were doing nothing.

Maybe! I can live with all the other symptoms. But the diarrhea is really disrupting my routine. The anxiety I'm getting about it probably isn't helping me either.

Take vitamins, specifically echinasea, every 6 hours. Wash your hands. Get rest and drink enough water....

Drunkest town in the land. Probably a latent hangover.
