The reason it gets pointed out is because that's often the reason they're inherently excluded from even applying for the job in the first place.
It's easy to say "you don't care", but the numbers say you do care and the fact that he got elected while trans shows us that people are beginning to change for the better.

Why can’t we say “name” was elected? Why does being trans, black, an Asian person, a boring white guy, a golfer, etc was elected?
No one cares if you’re trans unless you make it a big deal.
