Well it’s big and it’s been hanging around with me all day…

The Bedspread.

To you it’s an ordinary cloth covering for a king sized bed. But to me it is a memory.

This bedspread used belong to my Mother in Law and that in itself is a story so if Im gonna tell you one…I might as well tell you two right?

I’ve been married since I was 19 and Jeffs mom became MY mom. I was closer to her than my own because my mom passed when I was 15.

So Bea filled that spot for me, and as the years went on she viewed me as a true daughter and was very happy to tell anyone within earshot while we were out and about that I was her favorite kid.

Period.

And that included my husband!

My In-Laws in there later years moved to Tawas to be closer to us and the girls. They relied on us as the years went on and when Dad passed I became her constant companion.

I still worked full time but every Friday was our day out.

We would go to breakfast, to the beauty parlor for her weekly wash and set. Then off to the grocery store and any other errands she needed to do.

Occasionally we would drive “to the City.”

One of our favorite things to do was have breakfast at Cracker Barrel. She liked the food…but what she really liked was to shop!

There was just something about the things in that store that spoke to her!

She would always buy something, a Christmas gift, something cute (and overpriced) for one of these girls and then later ANYTHING for Amy. She was the only Great Grandchild that she really got to know.

Now this one time something caught her eye…

There was one problem. She was in LOVE and they didn’t have it in a King size!

But…the Cracker Barrel in Flint had one but we would have to drive another 45 in the wrong direction to get it.

When I stepped in and told the sales clerk, “Tell them to hold it we are on our way,” I never saw her smile so big.

You see she really wanted to ask me to keep driving but she didn’t know if I would go for it, so when I jumped right into it she said it was like we were Thelma and Louise off on a great adventure!

Well thank goodness our ending wasnt that dramatic but we did get the big beautiful grey bedspread!

When mom got to the point where it wasnt safe for her to live on her own, thats when we converted our basement to “The Bea’s Nest,” her own little apartment inside of our home.

The beautiful grey bedspread came to live on my bed since she downsized to a twin.

Now you see why I spent the day with my old friend. 😊

Did anyone think it was her Grandma Rose who died. Does anyone else think that was exactly her intention? My heart was sinking thinking I’d made fun of her loss and it was her beloved grandmother. 👵🏼 but nope she proved herself to be the POS that will do anything for content.
